We are good at talking, but our actions are bad.

ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਲੀਨ ਤੇ ਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਿਆਹ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਬਾਹਰਵਾਰੇ ਸਫ਼ੈਦ ਹਾਂ।
Mentally, we are impure and black, but outwardly, we appear white.

ਰੀਸਾ ਕਰਿਹ ਤਿਨਾੜੀਆ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰੁ ਖੜੀਆਹ ॥

ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਖਲੋਤੀਆਂ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
We imitate those who stand and serve at the Lord's Door.

ਨਾਲਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਰਤੀਆ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਰਲੀਆਹ ॥

खसमै रतीआ माणहि सुखि रलीआह ॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕਲੋਲ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
They are attuned to the Love of their Husband Lord, and they experience the pleasure of His Love.

ਹੋਦੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਨਿਤਾਣੀਆ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਮਾਨਣੀਆਹ ॥

ਦੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ, ਉਹ ਤਾਕਤ ਨਹੀ ਦਿਖੌਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। They remain powerless, even w

hile they have power; they remain humble and meek.

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਫੰਧੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਜਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ!
You Yourself cast the net, and You Yourself are the bait.

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੈਕੜੇ ਹੱਥ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ, ਗੂੜੇ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਕੰਵਲ ਹੈ।
You Yourself are the lotus, unaffected and still brightly-colored in hundreds of feet of water.

आपे मुकति कराइदा इक निमख घड़ी करि खिआलु ॥

ਤੂੰ

ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ-ਖਲਾਸੀ, ਲੇਖਾ ਪਾੜ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਇਕ ਅੱਖ ਦੇ ਫੋਰੇ ਜਾਂ ਮੁਹਤ ਭਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
You Yourself liberate those who think of You for even an instant.

तुधहु बाहरि किछु नही गुर सबदी वेखि निहालु ॥७॥

ਤੇਰੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ। ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਜਰੀਏ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮ

-ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹਾਂ। ||7||

O Lord, nothing is beyond You. I am delighted to behold You, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||7||

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨੀਦੀ, ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਆਤਮਾਂ ਉਹ ਘਣਾ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
One who does not know the Hukam of the Lord's Command cries out in terrible pain.

धोखा नीद न सोवै ॥

ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਛਲ ਫਰੇਬ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਉਹ ਗੂੜੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੌਦੀ।
She is filled with deception, and she cannot sleep in peace.

ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿੱਜ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੱਦ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

She shall be honored in her own home, and called to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ, ਰੱਬ ਕੁਸੰਭੇ ਦੀ ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਨਾਂ ਪਈਏ।
O self-willed manmukh, devoid of the Naam, do not be misled upon beholding the color of the safflower.

ਇਸ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜਿਆ ਛੋਛਾ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁਲੁ ॥

इस

का रंगु दिन थोड़िआ छोछा इस दा मुलु ॥

ਇਸ

ਦੀ ਭਾ ਭੜਕ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।
Its color lasts for only a few days-it is worthless!

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥

लगे पचि मुए मूरख अंध गवार ॥

ਦਵੈਤ

-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਣ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਤੇ ਬੁਧੂ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਗਲ ਸੜ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Attached to duality, the foolish, blind and stupid people waste away and die.

अंदरि कीट से पइ पचहि वारो वार ॥

ਉਹ

ਗੰਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਰਮ-ਕੀੜੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪੈਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੀੜੇ ਬੱਣਦੇ ਹਨ।
Like worms, they live in manure, and in it, they die over and over again.

नाम रते से रंगुले गुर कै सहजि सुभाइ ॥

ਨਾਨਕ

ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੀਜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are dyed in the color of truth; they take on the intuitive peace and poise of the Guru.

ਭਗਤੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

रंगु न उतरै सहजे रहै समाइ ॥२॥

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਰੰਗਤ ਲਹਿੰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਹੋਲੀ-ਹੋਲੀ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮੂਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਪੁਚਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
You created the entire universe, and You Yourself bring sustenance to it.

इकि

वलु छलु करि कै खावदे मुहहु कूड़ु कुसतु तिनी ढाहिआ ॥

ਕਈ ਮਨਮੱਖ ਬੇਈਮਾਨੀ ਕਰਕ, ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਕੌੜਾ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

Some eat and survive by practicing fraud and deceit; from their mouths they drop falsehood and lies.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਓਤੈ ਕੰਮਿ ਓਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

आपे भावै सो करहि तुधु ओतै कमि ओइ लाइआ ॥

ਤੂੰ

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਕਾਰੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹੋ ਕੁਛ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
As it pleases You, You assign them their tasks.

ਇਕਨਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਓਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਅਤੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਦੇਵਾਇਆ ॥

सचु बुझाइओनु तिना अतुट भंडार देवाइआ ॥

ਕਈਆਂ

ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾਈ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।
Some understand Truthfulness; they are given the inexhaustible treasure.

हरि

चेति खाहि तिना सफलु है अचेता हथ तडाइआ ॥८॥

ਉਹ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ, ਸੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਫ਼ਲ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ,

ਉਹ ਮੰਗਣ ਲਈ ਹੱਥ ਅੱਡਦੇ ਹਨ। ||8||

Those who eat by remembering the Lord are prosperous, while those who do not remember Him stretch out their hands in need. ||8||

ਧੰਨ

ਦੌਲਤ ਦੇ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਰ, ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਣ ਵੇਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਾਚਦੇ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

भाइ हरि नामु विसारिआ मन मूरख मिलै सजाइ ॥

ਸੰਸਾਰੀ

ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਬੇਵਕੂਫ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੇ, ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਛਡਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੰਡ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
In the love of duality, the foolish people have forgotten the Lord's Name; they shall receive their punishment.

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਜੋ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹਿ ॥

जिनि

जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु कबहूं न चेतै जो देंदा रिजकु स्मबाहि ॥

ਉਹ

ਉਸ ਚਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
They never think of the One who gave them body and soul, who provides sustenance to all.

ਜਮ ਕਾ ਫਾਹਾ ਗਲਹੁ ਨ ਕਟੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

का फाहा गलहु न कटीऐ फिरि फिरि आवै जाइ ॥

ਮੌਤ

ਦੀ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਢੀ ਜਾਣੀ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
The noose of death shall not be cut away from their necks; they shall come and go in reincarnation over and over again.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

मनमुखि

किछू न सूझै अंधुले पूरबि लिखिआ कमाइ ॥

ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ

ਆਪ-ਹੁਦਰਾ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ। ਉਹੋ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਮੁਢ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand anything. They do what they are pre-ordained to do.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

पूरै

भागि सतिगुरु मिलै सुखदाता नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥

ਚੰਗੇ

ਨਸੀਬਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਆਰਾਮ ਦੇਣਹਾਰ, ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ, ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਮ ਆ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through perfect destiny, they meet the True Guru, the Giver of peace, and the Naam comes to abide in the mind.

ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥

Sukh Maanehi Sukh Painanaa Sukhae Sukh Vihaae ||

सुखु

माणहि सुखु पैनणा सुखे सुखि विहाइ ॥

ਉਹ

ਆਰਾਮ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਚੰਗਾ ਪਹਿਨਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
They enjoy peace, they wear peace, and they pass their lives in the peace of peace.

सो नाउ मनहु न विसारीऐ जितु दरि सचै सोभा पाइ ॥१॥

ਓ ਨਾਨਕ

! ਆਪਣੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁਲਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੱਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ||1||

O Nanak, they do not forget the Naam from the mind; they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨਤਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ।
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained. The True Name is the Treasure of Excellence.
