सहजि सोभा घणी हरि गुण नाम अधारि ॥

ਸੱਚੇ

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਵੱਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਿਆਈ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਾਰ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।Through truth and intuitive poise, great honor is obtained, with the Support of the Naam and the Glory of the Lord.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

भावै तिउ रखु तूं मै तुझ बिनु कवनु भतारु ॥३॥

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਖ ਮੇਰਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
As it pleases You, Lord, please save and protect me. Without You, O my Husband Lord, who else is there for me? ||3||

ਪੜ੍ਹ-ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
Reading their books over and over again, people continue making mistakes; they are so proud of their religious robes.

ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥

नाता किआ करे मन महि मैलु गुमानु ॥

ਧਰਮਿਕ

ਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਿੰਡਾ ਧੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਜੀਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਹੈ।
But what is the use of bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, when the filth of stubborn pride is within the mind?

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥੪॥

बिनु किनि समझाईऐ मनु राजा सुलतानु ॥४॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਦੱਸ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਬਈ ਜੀਅ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਰਾਜਾ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ।

Other than the Guru, who can explain that within the mind is the Lord, the King, the Emperor? ||4||

पदारथु पाईऐ गुरमुखि ततु वीचारु ॥

ਪਿਆਰ

ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਗੁਣਾ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰੀਏ।
The Treasure of the Lord's Love is obtained by the Gurmukh, who contemplates the essence of reality.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥

धन आपु गवाइआ गुर कै सबदि सीगारु ॥

ਆਪਣੇ

ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ-ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The bride eradicates her selfishness, and adorns herself with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੫॥

घर

ही सो पिरु पाइआ गुर कै हेति अपारु ॥५॥

ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਈ ਅੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮੋਹ ਹੈ।

Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained.

का सबदु मनि वसिआ हउमै विचहु खोइ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਆਤਮਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥

पदारथु पाइआ लाभु सदा मनि होइ ॥६॥

ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਸੁੱਖਾ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

करमि

मिलै ता पाईऐ आपि न लइआ जाइ ॥

ਚੰਗ੍ਹੇ

ਭਾਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੇ।
If He grants His Grace, then we obtain it. We cannot find it by our own efforts.

की चरणी लगि रहु विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥

ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਕੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ-ਮੇਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ।
Remain attached to the Feet of the Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within.

सचे

सेती रतिआ सचो पलै पाइ ॥७॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਰੱਬ ਵਰਗੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।

अंदरि सभु को अभुलु गुरू करतारु ॥

ਗੱਲਤੀਆ

ਸਾਰੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਗਲ਼ਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ।
Everyone makes mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

मनु समझाइआ लागा तिसै पिआरु ॥

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ

ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

One who instructs his mind with the Guru's Teachings comes to embrace love for the Lord.

The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism.

I sing the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with love; I am content with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

दीसै सो चलसी कूड़ा मोहु न वेखु ॥

ਜੋ

ਵੀ ਪਿਆਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰਾ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਧੋਖਾ ਨਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
Whatever is seen shall pass away. So do not be attached to this false show.

ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਦਾ ਸਾਥੁ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੨॥

वटाऊ आइआ नित चलदा साथु देखु ॥२॥

ਤੂੰ ਰਸਤੇ ਦਾ ਮੁਸਫ਼ਰ ਹੈ। ਦੇਖ ਰੋਜ਼ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਥ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

आखहि केतड़े गुर बिनु बूझ न होइ ॥

ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰ

ਬਗੈਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਬੁਝਾਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬੁੱਝ ਸਕੇ।

Many preach sermons, but without the Guru, understanding is not obtained.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਪੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

नामु

वडाई जे मिलै सचि रपै पति होइ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ

ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਸੱਚੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਜਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
If someone receives the Glory of the Naam, he is attuned to truth and blessed with honor.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥

तुधु भावहि से भले खोटा खरा न कोइ ॥३॥

ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਭਲਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ।

Those who are pleasing to You are good; no one is counterfeit or genuine. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥

सरणाई छुटीऐ मनमुख खोटी रासि ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਹੈ। ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਖੋਟੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ।
In the Guru's Sanctuary we are saved. The assets of the self-willed manmukhs are false.

ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿ ॥

धातु पातिसाह की घड़ीऐ सबदि विगासि ॥

ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅੱਠ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਧੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਤ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
The eight metals of the King are made into coins by the Word of His Shabad.

ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥

परखे पारखू पवै खजानै रासि ॥४॥

ਰੱਬ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਕੋਲ, ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਭਾਂਲ ਲੈਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਛੰਡ ਕੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

ਕਹਣੈ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥

कहणै

हाथ न लभई सचि टिकै पति पाइ ॥

ਗੱਲਾ

ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਜਾਪ ਸੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
By speaking, His Depth cannot be found. Abiding in truth, honor is obtained.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

गुरमति

तूं सालाहणा होरु कीमति कहणु न जाइ ॥५॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੇਰੀ ਵੱਡਆਦਈ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੱਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਨ।

ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਦੁ ॥

Jith Than Naam N Bhaavee Thith Than Houmai Vaadh ||

जितु

तनि नामु न भावई तितु तनि हउमै वादु ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਦੇਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
That body which does not appreciate the Naam-that body is infested with egotism and conflict.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥

गुर

बिनु गिआनु न पाईऐ बिखिआ दूजा सादु ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਵਗੈਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਹੀ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ। ਬਾਕੀ ਸਭ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਅਸਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained; other tastes are poison.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥

बिनु

गुण कामि न आवई माइआ फीका सादु ॥६॥

ਵਗੈਰ

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਜੱਗ ਜੋਗੇ ਹਨ।
Without virtue, nothing is of any use. The taste of Maya is bland and insipid. ||6||

ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਇ ॥

Aasaa Andhar Janmiaa Aasaa Ras Kas Khaae ||

आसा

अंदरि जमिआ आसा रस कस खाइ ॥

ਆਸਾ

ਤਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਮੀਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through desire, people are cast into the womb and reborn. Through desire, they taste the sweet and sour flavors.

ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਮੁਹੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥

Aasaa Bandhh Chalaaeeai Muhae Muhi Chottaa Khaae ||

आसा

बंधि चलाईऐ मुहे मुहि चोटा खाइ ॥

ਲਾਲਚ

ਤਮਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਉਲਝਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇਖਣਾਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Bound by desire, they are led on, beaten and struck on their faces and mouths.

ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਧਾ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੭॥

अवगणि

बधा मारीऐ छूटै गुरमति नाइ ॥७॥

ਮਾੜੇ
ਕਿਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਟ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੰਨਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Bound and gagged and assaulted by evil, they are released only through the Name, through the Guru's Teachings. ||7||
