ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੰਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਦੇਖ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਲੈ ਲੈ।
Seeing this world on fire, I rushed to the Sanctuary of the True Guru.

सचु दिड़ाइआ सदा सचि संजमि रहणा ॥

ਸੱਚਾ ਰੱਬ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੱਪ ਕੇ ਸਚਾਈ ਤੇ ਸਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲਣਾ ਹੈ।
The True Guru has implanted the Truth within me; I dwell steadfastly in Truth and self-restraint.

ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਭਾਉਦੇ ਨੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਨੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੁੱਟਣਾਂ।
People continue wandering through the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations; without the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.

ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮਣ ਵੀ ਹੰਭ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੋੜ ਕੇ ਲਾਜ਼ ਲਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ।
Reading and studying, the Pandits and the silent sages have grown weary, but attached to the love of duality, they have lost their honor.

सबदु सुणाइआ बिनु सचे अवरु न कोई ॥७॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਜੱਪਣ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਗੈਰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ।

जो

सचै लाए से सचि लगे नित सची कार करंनि ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਆਪਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who are linked by the True One are linked to Truth. They always act in Truth.

निज घरि वासा पाइआ सचै महलि रहंनि ॥

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਜੀਵਾ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸਥਾਂਨ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ। ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They attain their dwelling in the home of their own inner being, and they abide in the Mansion of Truth.

When your friends turn into enemies, and even your relatives have deserted you,

ਰੱਬ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼, ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੱਤੀ ਹਵਾ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਪ।॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਕਿਸੇ ਉਤੇ ਮਾੜਾਂ ਸਮਾਂ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ, ਤਨ ਉਤੇ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਨਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ। ਭੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸਤਾਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
If you are weakened by the pains of hunger and poverty,

And no one will satisfy your hopes and desires, and none of your works is accomplished

ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮਨ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਿਜ ਜਾਵੇ। ਰਾਜ ਗੱਦੀਆਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

कउ चिंता बहुतु बहुतु देही विआपै रोगु ॥

ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ ਦਰਦ ਤੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
When you are plagued by great and excessive anxiety, and diseases of the body;

कुट्मबि पलेटिआ कदे हरखु कदे सोगु ॥

ਜੀਵ, ਪਰਿਵਾਰ,

ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਲਝਿਆ ਹੈ। ਕਦੇ ਹੱਸਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
When you are wrapped up in the attachments of household and family, sometimes feeling joy, and then other times sorrow;

ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਭੱਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਸੌਣ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ।
गउणु करे चहु कुंट का घड़ी न बैसणु सोइ ॥

When you are wandering around in all four directions, and you cannot sit or sleep even for a moment

ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮਨ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਿਜ ਜਾਵੇ। ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

कामि

करोधि मोहि वसि कीआ किरपन लोभि पिआरु ॥

ਕਾਂਮ ਇੰਦਰੀ, ਗੁੱਸੇ,

ਮੱਮਤਾ, ਲਾਲਚ, ਪ੍ਰੀਤ, ਜੇ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੱਬਾ ਪਾ ਲਵੇ ।
When you are under the power of sexual desire, anger and worldly attachment, or a greedy miser in love with your wealth;

किलविख उनि अघ कीए होआ असुर संघारु ॥

ਦੁਨੀਆਂ

ਤੇ ਮਾੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਤਲ ਆਦਮਖ਼ੋਰ ਸੱਮਝੇ।
If you have committed the four great sins and other mistakes; even if you are a murderous fiend

गीत कवित किछु कदे न करनि धरिआ ॥

ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ,

ਗੀਤ,ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਜੇ ਕਦੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
Who has never taken the time to listen to sacred books, hymns and poetry

आवै ओसु पारब्रहमु ता निमख सिमरत तरिआ ॥४॥

ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਹਰਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ। ਮਨ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਿਜ ਜਾਵੇ। ਤਾਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੋਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੋੜਨ ਨਾਲ ਭਵਜਲ ਪਾਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

सिम्रिति बेद चारि मुखागर बिचरे ॥

ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ, ਧਰਮਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥਿ, ਸ਼ਾਸਤ੍ਰ, ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੇ।
People may recite by heart the Shaastras, the Simritees and the four Vedas;

ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਜੋਗੀਆ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰੇ ॥

तपीसर जोगीआ तीरथि गवनु करे ॥

ਜੋਗੀਆਂ

ਵਾਂਗ ਤੱਪ, ਤੱਪਸਿਆ ,ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਹ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਕਰੇ।
They may be ascetics, great, self-disciplined Yogis; they may visit sacred shrines of pilgrimage

ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਗੁਣੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਨਾਇ ॥

करमा ते दुगुणे पूजा करता नाइ ॥

ਧਰਮਿਕ

ਕੰਮ ਦੂਗਣੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ। ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੇ।
And perform the six ceremonial rituals, over and over again, performing worship services and ritual bathings.

न लगी पारब्रहम ता सरपर नरके जाइ ॥५॥

ਜੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਗਿਆ। ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਜਰੂਰ ਨਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

Even so, if they have not embraced love for the Supreme Lord God, then they shall surely go to hell. ||5||

सुहावे सोहणे चलै हुकमु अफार ॥

ਬਗੀਚੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਆਸਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦਾ ਸਿਕਾ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
You may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands;

ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧੀ ਚਾਇ ਲਗਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

Rang Thamaasae Bahu Bidhhee Chaae Lag Rehiaa ||

रंग

तमासे बहु बिधी चाइ लगि रहिआ ॥

ਜੀਵ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ

ਦੇ ਮੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਗੀਨ ਕੰਮਾਂ, ਖੇਡ ਦੀਆ ਰੰਗ ਰਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
You may have enjoyments and entertainments of all sorts and kinds, and continue to enjoy exciting pleasures

ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਾ ਸਰਪ ਕੀ ਜੂਨਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੬॥

न आइओ पारब्रहमु ता सरप की जूनि गइआ ॥६॥

ਸਰਬ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਮਾਨ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚਯਾਦ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ। ਸੱਪ ਦੀ ਜੋਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਨਰਕ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਪ ਨੂੰ ਜਹਿਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਤੰਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
-and yet, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall be reincarnated as a snake. ||6||

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਧਨਾਢਿ ਅਚਾਰਵੰਤੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥

धनाढि अचारवंतु सोभा निरमल रीति ॥

ਉਚੇ ਆਚਰਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਵਾਹ ਵਾਹ ਖੱਟਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁੱਧ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
You may possess vast riches, maintain virtuous conduct, have a spotless reputation and observe religious customs;

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈਆ ਸਾਜਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥

ਹੱਥਿਆਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਸਲਾਮੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਣ। ਝੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਣ।
You may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may salute you with respect;
