झूठै झूठु बोलणा किउ करि सूचा होइ ॥

ਜੀਵ ਮੂੰਹ

ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਕੱਫ਼ਰ ਗੰਦਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਮੂੰਹ ਸੁੱਧ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
With false mouths, people speak falsehood. How can they be made pure?

अभ सबद न मांजीऐ साचे ते सचु होइ ॥१॥

ਸਾਚੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਮਾਜ਼ਣ ਜੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਥੋੜੇ ਜਲ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੱਛੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ।
Like the fish in shallow water, crying for mercy.

ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥

पिर

भावै सुखु पाईऐ जा आपे नदरि करेइ ॥२॥

ਰੱਬ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਅੰਨਦ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਦੀ ਕਰੇ।

ਸਰੀਰਕ

ਪਿਆਰ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ। ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਦੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁੱਝ ਗਏ।
The body is beautified, and the mind is fascinated. Imbued with His Love, we are enraptured.

सवारी सोहणी पिरु रावे गुण नालि ॥३॥

ਜੀਵ ਆਤਮਾਂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ, ਪਿਆਰੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

कामि न आवई खोटी अवगणिआरि ॥

ਬਿੰਨਾਂ

ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਤਨੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਂ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।
The soul-bride is of no use at all, if she is evil and without virtue.

ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੇਈਐ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਝੂਠਿ ਜਲੀ ਵੇਕਾਰਿ ॥

सुखु पेईऐ साहुरै झूठि जली वेकारि ॥

ਇਸ

ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਐਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਤੱੜਫ਼ਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
She does not find peace in this world or the next; she burns in falsehood and corruption.

ਆਵਣੁ ਵੰਞਣੁ ਡਾਖੜੋ ਛੋਡੀ ਕੰਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥੪॥

आवणु

वंञणु डाखड़ो छोडी कंति विसारि ॥४॥

ਖ਼ਸਮ ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਆਉਣਾ ਜਾਣਾਂ ਔਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Coming and going are very difficult for that bride who is abandoned and forgotten by her Husband Lord. ||4||

The beautiful soul-bride of the Husband Lord-by what sensual pleasures has she been doomed?

ਦੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਫਾਲਤੂ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਨੇ।
She is of no use to her Husband if she babbles in useless arguments.

ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਲਹੈ ਛੂਟੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥੫॥

Dhar Ghar Dtoee Naa Lehai Shhoottee Dhoojai Saadh ||5||

दरि

घरि ढोई ना लहै छूटी दूजै सादि ॥५॥

ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਹੋਰ ਕਿਤੇ ਵੀ ਛੁੱਟਕਾਰੇ ਲਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।

ਧਰਮਿਕ ਕਿਤਾਬਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਨੇ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਬਦਾ ਦੀ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read their books, but they do not understand the real meaning.

ਅਨ ਕਉ ਮਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਲਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥

कउ मती दे चलहि माइआ का वापारु ॥

ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਿਕ, ਆਗੂ, ਸਾਧੂ ਹੋਰਾਂ

ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਨ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਰਹਿੱਣ ਲਈ ਕਹਿ ਆਪ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ।
They give instructions to others, and then walk away, but they deal in Maya themselves.

ਕਥਨੀ ਝੂਠੀ ਜਗੁ ਭਵੈ ਰਹਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੬॥

कथनी

झूठी जगु भवै रहणी सबदु सु सारु ॥६॥

ਜੀਵ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੱਟਕਦੇ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਨੇ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਸਲੀ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ।

Speaking falsehood, they wander around the world, while those who remain true to the Shabad are excellent and exalted. ||6||

ਪੰਡਤ ਜੋਤਸ਼ੀ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਉਸ ਉਤੇ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ।
There are so many Pandits and astrologers who ponder over the Vedas.

ਵਾਦਿ ਵਿਰੋਧਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੇ ਵਾਦੇ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥

वादि

विरोधि सलाहणे वादे आवणु जाणु ॥

ਵਾਧੂ

ਦਾ ਭੇਦ ਖੜੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਣਦੇ ਨੇ। ਤਾਂਹੀ ਮਰਦੇ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਨੇ।
They glorify their disputes and arguments, and in these controversies they continue coming and going.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਛੁਟਸੀ ਕਹਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੁ ॥੭॥

बिनु

गुर करम न छुटसी कहि सुणि आखि वखाणु ॥७॥

ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁੱਣਨ ਕਹਿੱਣ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿੰਨਾ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਣਾ।

Without the Guru, they are not released from their karma, although they speak and listen and preach and explain. ||7||

ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਮੈ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

गुणवंती आखीअहि मै गुणु नाही कोइ ॥

ਸਾਰੀਆ

ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨੇ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਣ ਇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
They all call themselves virtuous, but I have no virtue at all.

ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

हरि

वरु नारि सुहावणी मै भावै प्रभु सोइ ॥

ਹਰਿ

ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਭਾਗਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਨੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਭਾਅ ਜਾਵਾਂ।
With the Lord as her Husband, the soul-bride is happy; I, too, love that God.

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਪਿਆ ਤੱਪਸਿਆਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰੀਏ। ਧਰਮਿਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੇਰਾ ਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਵੀ ਜਾਵੇ।
You may chant and meditate, practice austerities and self-restraint, and dwell at sacred shrines of pilgrimage;

दान चंगिआईआ बिनु साचे किआ तासु ॥

ਲੋਕਾਂ

ਨੂੰ ਵਸਤੂਆ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਚੰਗ੍ਹੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭਾਵੇ ਕੋਈਂ ਫ਼ੈਇਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
You may give donations to charity, and perform good deeds, but without the True One, what is the use of it all?

ਜੇਹਾ ਰਾਧੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਲੁਣੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

जेहा

राधे तेहा लुणै बिनु गुण जनमु विणासु ॥१॥

ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਨੇ,

ਉਹੀ ਭੁਗਤਣੇ ਪੈਣੇ ਹਨ। ਬਿਨਾਂ ਚੰਗ੍ਹੇ ਕੰਮੀ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਰ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀ। ||1||
As you plant, so shall you harvest. Without virtue, this human life passes away in vain. ||1||

O young bride, be a slave to virtue, and you shall find peace.

Without capital, the trader looks around in all four directions.

न बुझै आपणा वसतु रही घर बारि ॥

ਆਪਣਾਂ ਮੂਲ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਉਹ ਰਬ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ।
He does not understand his own origins; the merchandise remains within the door of his own house.

वखर दुखु अगला कूड़ि मुठी कूड़िआरि ॥२॥

ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਜਰੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਸਮਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Without this commodity, there is great pain. The false are ruined by falsehood. ||2||

ਲਾਹਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਉਤਨਾ ਪਰਖੇ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

लाहा

अहिनिसि नउतना परखे रतनु वीचारि ॥

ਜੋ

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਅਨਮੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਭਾਂਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਰਤਨ ਦੀ ਪਰੱਖ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕਰਸਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਭ ਇੱਜਂਤ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who contemplates and appraises this Jewel day and night reaps new profits.

ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥

Vasath Lehai Ghar Aapanai Chalai Kaaraj Saar ||

वसतु

लहै घरि आपणै चलै कारजु सारि ॥

ਮਨ

ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ, ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
He finds the merchandise within his own home, and departs after arranging his affairs.

ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਸਿਉ ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

वणजारिआ

सिउ वणजु करि गुरमुखि ब्रहमु बीचारि ॥३॥

ਉਸ

ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਤਰੀਕਾ-ਅੱਕਲ ਲੈ ਕੇ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਿੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥੩॥
So trade with the true traders, and as Gurmukh, contemplate God. ||3||

ਸੰਤਾਂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਣਹਾਰੁ ॥

संतां

संगति पाईऐ जे मेले मेलणहारु ॥

ਉਸ

ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਉਹ ਚਾਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੇਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੇਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Society of the Saints, He is found, if the Uniter unites us.

ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

मिलिआ

होइ न विछुड़ै जिसु अंतरि जोति अपार ॥

ਪਿਆਰੇ

ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਜੋਤ ਜਗਾ ਲੈਂਦਾਂ ਹੈ।
One whose heart is filled with His Infinite Light meets with Him, and shall never again be separated from Him.

ਸਚੈ ਆਸਣਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ॥੪॥

सचै

आसणि सचि रहै सचै प्रेम पिआर ॥४॥

ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਸੱਚੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਕੇ, ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਜਿਨੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਸੁਥਾਇ ॥

जिनी

आपु पछाणिआ घर महि महलु सुथाइ ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਨੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਉਥੋ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
One who understands himself finds the Mansion of the Lord's Presence within his own home.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

सचे

सेती रतिआ सचो पलै पाइ ॥

ਸੱਚੇ
ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਿਵ ਲਾ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ। ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਬਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
Imbued with the True Lord, Truth is gathered in.
