चलणु सदा निहालिआ हरि खरचु लीआ पति पाइ ॥

ਉ

ਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਲਈ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇੱਕਠਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੇ। ਨਾਂਮ ਨੇ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਨਾਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਦੇਣਾਂ ਹੈ।

They keep death constantly before their eyes; they gather the Provisions of the Lord's Name, and receive honor.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮੰਨੀਅਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥

गुरमुखि

दरगह मंनीअहि हरि आपि लए गलि लाइ ॥२॥

ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ-ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਗਲੇ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord. The Lord Himself takes them in His Loving Embrace. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪੰਥੁ ਪਰਗਟਾ ਦਰਿ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਇ ॥

गुरमुखा

नो पंथु परगटा दरि ठाक न कोई पाइ ॥

ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ

ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ। ਮੋਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ।
For the Gurmukhs, the Way is obvious. At the Lord's Door, they face no obstructions.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਨਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

हरि

नामु सलाहनि नामु मनि नामि रहनि लिव लाइ ॥

ਹਰੀ

ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਚਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
They praise the Lord's Name, they keep the Naam in their minds, and they remain attached to the Love of the Naam.

ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਦਰਿ ਵਜਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥

अनहद

धुनी दरि वजदे दरि सचै सोभा पाइ ॥३॥

ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅੰਨਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਗੀਤ ਵੱਜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਮਾਣ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

गुरमुखि नामु सलाहिआ तिना सभ को कहै साबासि ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਗੁਰੁਮੁਖਿ ਨੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
Those Gurmukhs who praise the Naam are applauded by everyone.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

की संगति देहि प्रभ मै जाचिक की अरदासि ॥

ਰੂਹਾ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਰੱਬ ਜੀ ਮੈਂ ਗਰੀਬ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Grant me their company, God-I am a beggar; this is my prayer.

Why are you so thrilled by the sight of your son and your beautifully decorated wife?

भोगहि खुसीआ करहि माणहि रंग अपार ॥

ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਕੇ ਅੰਨਦ

ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਨਾਂ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਜ਼ੇ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
You enjoy tasty delicacies, you have lots of fun, and you indulge in endless pleasures.

करहि फुरमाइसी वरतहि होइ अफार ॥

ਬੇਅੰਤ

ਹਕੂਮਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬੜਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
You give all sorts of commands, and you act so superior.

भोगि लपटाइआ सुइना रुपा खाकु ॥

ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕੱਪੜਿਆ

ਤੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸੋਨਾਂ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਤ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹਨ।
People are entangled in the enjoyment of fine clothes, but gold and silver are only dust.

ਹਾਥੀ ਰੱਥ ਬਹੁਤ ਰਕਮ ਦੇ ਇੱਕਠੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
They acquire beautiful horses and elephants, and ornate carriages of many kinds.

ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਸਭ ਸਾਕ ॥

किस

ही चिति न पावही बिसरिआ सभ साक ॥

ਤੂੰ

ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਰੱਬ ਅਸਲੀ ਸਾਕ ਭੁਲ ਗਿਆ।
They think of nothing else, and they forget all their relatives.

भुलाइआ विणु नावै नापाक ॥२॥

ਬਨਾਉਣ

ਵਾਲਾ ਭੁਲ ਗਿਆ ਬਿੰਨ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਚਾ ਪਿਲਾ ਹੈ। ||2||
They ignore their Creator; without the Name, they are impure. ||2||

1717 ਲੈਦਾ ਬਦ ਦੁਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕਤ ॥

Laidhaa Badh Dhuaae Thoon Maaeiaa Karehi Eikath ||

लैदा

बद दुआइ तूं माइआ करहि इकत ॥

ਤੂੰ

ਧੋਖੇ ਨਾਲ ਧੰਨ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੱਦ ਦੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾਂ ਹੈ।
Gathering the wealth of Maya, you earn an evil reputation.

1718 ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਣੁ ਤੁਝੈ ਅਨਿਤ ॥

नो तूं पतीआइदा सो सणु तुझै अनित ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਹੱਥਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਣੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ।
Those whom you work to please shall pass away along with you.

1719 ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ॥

अहंकारु

करहि अहंकारीआ विआपिआ मन की मति ॥

ਤੂੰ

ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨ ਦੀ ਮਤ ਦੀ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
The egotistical are engrossed in egotism, ensnared by the intellect of the mind.

1720 ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ॥੩॥

प्रभि आपि भुलाइआ ना तिसु जाति न पति ॥३॥

ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਨੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਪਹਿਚਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
One who is deceived by God Himself, has no position and no honor. ||3||

1721 ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਇਕੋ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

पुरखि मिलाइआ इको सजणु सोइ ॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ

ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਇਆ ਹੈ।
The True Guru, the Primal Being, has led me to meet the One, my only Friend.

1722 ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਣਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਇ ॥

जन का राखा एकु है किआ माणस हउमै रोइ ॥

ਹਰੀ

ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ। ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਨੇ?
The One is the Saving Grace of His humble servant. Why should the proud cry out in ego?

1723 ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਦਰਿ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

Jo Har Jan Bhaavai So Karae Dhar Faer N Paavai Koe ||

जो

हरि जन भावै सो करे दरि फेरु न पावै कोइ ॥

ਜੋ

ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਮੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
As the servant of the Lord wills, so does the Lord act. At the Lord's Door, none of his requests are denied.

1724 ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੭੧॥

रता रंगि हरि सभ जग महि चानणु होइ ॥४॥१॥७१॥

ਨਾਨਕ

ਨਾਂਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਤਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਰਾ ਨੁੰ ਜਗਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ। ||4||1||71||
Nanak is attuned to the Love of the Lord, whose Light pervades the entire Universe. ||4||1||71||

मनि

बिलासु बहु रंगु घणा द्रिसटि भूलि खुसीआ ॥

ਮਨ

ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਾਅ, ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਰੰਗ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆ, ਸੁੱਖ ਹੋਵੇ। ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੇ ਰੱਬ ਭੁਲ ਜਾਵੇ।
With the mind caught up in playful pleasures, involved in all sorts of amusements and sights that stagger the eyes, people are led astray.

1727 ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰ ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਸੇ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥

Shhathradhhaar Baadhisaaheeaa Vich Sehasae Pareeaa ||1||

बादिसाहीआ विचि सहसे परीआ ॥१॥

ਹਕੂਮਤਾ

ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਿੰਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਨ। ਖੁਸ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇ। ||1||

The emperors sitting on their thrones are consumed by anxiety. ||1||

1728 ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

रे सुखु साधसंगि पाइआ ॥

O Siblings of Destiny, peace is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਤਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਨੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰਾ ਫਿ਼ਕਰ ਰੋਗ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ। ।।1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
If the Supreme Lord, the Architect of Destiny, writes such an order, then anguish and anxiety are erased. ||1||Pause||

There are so many places-I have wandered through them all.

पाती वड भूमीआ मेरी मेरी करि परिआ ॥२॥

ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣ ਮੈਂ-ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
The masters of wealth and the great land-lords have fallen, crying out, ""This is mine! This is mine!""||2||

1732 ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਫਰਿਆ ॥

हुकमु

चलाए निसंग होइ वरतै अफरिआ ॥

ਹੰਕਾਂਰ

ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਫਰਿਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਆਪਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਸੱਮਝਕੇ, ਬਗੈਰ ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਚਲਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ।
They issue their commands fearlessly, and act in pride.

1733 ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲਿਆ ॥੩॥

Sabh Ko Vasagath Kar Laeioun Bin Naavai Khaak Raliaa ||3||

सभु

को वसगति करि लइओनु बिनु नावै खाकु रलिआ ॥३॥

ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ

ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ। ਅੰਤ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਂਮ ਸਭ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਹੈ। ||3||

They subdue all under their command, but without the Name, they are reduced to dust. ||3||

1734 ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਦਰਿ ਖਰਿਆ ॥

Kott Thaethees Saevakaa Sidhh Saadhhik Dhar Khariaa ||

कोटि

तेतीस सेवका सिध साधिक दरि खरिआ ॥

ਭਾਵੇਂ

ਤੇਤੀ ਕਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ। ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਉਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿੱਣ।
Even those who are served by the 33 million angelic beings, at whose door the Siddhas and the Saadhus stand,

ਦੇ ਸਭ ਵੱਡ ਮੁੱਲੇ ਥਾਮਾਂ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਹੀਆਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਂਮ ਬਿੰਨਂ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਮਿੱਟ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ। ||4||2||72||

Who live in wondrous affluence and rule over mountains, oceans and vast dominions-O Nanak, in the end, all this vanishes like a dream! ||4||2||72||
