अतुलु न तोलीऐ कथनि न पाइआ जाइ ॥५॥

ਰੱਬ ਕਿੰਨਾਂ ਕੁ ਭਾਰੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਨਦਾਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਜੋਖ ਨਹੀਂ

ਸਕਦੇ ਹੈ। ਸਾਈਂ ਜੋਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਕੇਵਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬਾਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ||5||

Our Lord and Master is Unweighable; He cannot be weighed. He cannot be found merely by talking. ||5||

वणजारिआ आए वजहु लिखाइ ॥

ਆਪਣਾਂ

ਵਿਪਾਰ ਲਿਖਵਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਉਪਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਦਾਗਰ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਹਨ।
The merchants and the traders have come; their profits are pre-ordained.

ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

Kaar Kamaavehi Sach Kee Laahaa Milai Rajaae ||

कार

कमावहि सच की लाहा मिलै रजाइ ॥

ਜੋ

ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਨਫਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who practice Truth reap the profits, abiding in the Will of God.

साची गुरु मिलै ना तिसु तिलु न तमाइ ॥६॥

ਸੱਚ

ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਸੌਦੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਭੋਰਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਲੋਭ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ। ||6||

With the Merchandise of Truth, they meet the Guru, who does not have a trace of greed. ||6||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋੁਲਾਇਸੀ ਸਚੁ ਤਰਾਜੀ ਤੋਲੁ ॥

Guramukh Thol Thuolaaeisee Sach Tharaajee Thol ||

गुरमुखि

तोलि तोलाइसी सचु तराजी तोलु ॥

ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਸੱਚੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਪਦੇ

, ਜੱਪੌਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਤੱਕੜੀ ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਵੱਟਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੋਖਦੇ, ਪਰਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡਦੇ ਹਨ।
As Gurmukh, they are weighed and measured, in the balance and the scales of Truth.

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਠਾਕੀ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲੁ ॥

आसा

मनसा मोहणी गुरि ठाकी सचु बोलु ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਮੀਦ ਤੇ ਖਾਹਿਸ਼ ਰੋਕ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਿਕਾ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

The enticements of hope and desire are quieted by the Guru, whose Word is True.

तुलाए तोलसी पूरे पूरा तोलु ॥७॥

ਉਹ ਖੁਦਾ ਤਰਾਜੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਰੱਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਲਦਾ ਹੈ

, ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ||7||

He Himself weighs with the scale; perfect is the weighing of the Perfect One. ||7||

कहणि न छुटीऐ ना पड़ि पुसतक भार ॥

ਨਿਰਾ

ਆਖਣ ਤੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਡੀ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ। ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਢੇਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਚਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
No one is saved by mere talk and speech, nor by reading loads of books.

ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰ ॥

सोच न पाईऐ बिनु हरि भगति पिआर ॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ

ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਗੈਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
The body does not obtain purity without loving devotion to the Lord.

ਇਨਸਾਨ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂ ਭੁਲਾਵੇ, ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ||8||9||
O Nanak, never forget the Naam; the Guru shall unite us with the Creator. ||8||9||

ਮਨ ਦੇਣ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Surrendering our minds to our Guru, we find universal love.

गिआनु

धिआनु धुनि जाणीऐ अकथु कहावै सोइ ॥

ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਝ ਪਾਉਂਣੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਲਈ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੋੜ ਲੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਉਣੀ ਪੈਣੀ ਹੈ।

Know that from the vibration of the Word, we obtain spiritual wisdom and meditation. Through it, we speak the Unspoken.

सफलिओ

बिरखु हरीआवला छाव घणेरी होइ ॥

ਰੱਬ ਹਰਾ

-ਭਰਾ ਸਿੰਘਣੀ ਛਾਂਦਾਰ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ।

He is the fruit-bearing Tree, luxuriantly green with abundant shade.

जवेहर माणकी गुर भंडारै सोइ ॥२॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਜਵੇਹਰ, ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬੀ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ-ਚਸ਼ਮੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਧੰਨ ਅੱਗੇ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਵੀ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ||2||

भंडारै पाईऐ निरमल नाम पिआरु ॥

ਜੋ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਹੈ।

From the Guru's Treasury, we receive the Love of the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.

साचो

वखरु संचीऐ पूरै करमि अपारु ॥

ਇਹ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੌਦਾ ਉਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਣ

, ਪੂਰੇ ਜਾਗ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

We gather in the True Merchandise, through the Perfect Grace of the Infinite.

सुखदाता

दुख मेटणो सतिगुरु असुर संघारु ॥३॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਸੁੱਖ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ||3||

The True Guru is the Giver of peace, the Dispeller of pain, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||

ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੁਹਤ ਦੋਜ਼ਕਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਡਰਾਵਣਾਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਆਰ

-ਪਾਰ ਕਿੰਨਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ।

The terrifying world-ocean is difficult and dreadful; there is no shore on this side or the one beyond.

बेड़ी ना तुलहड़ा ना तिसु वंझु मलारु ॥

ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਬੇੜੀ, ਮਲਾਹ, ਚੱਪੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

There is no boat, no raft, no oars and no boatman.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੈ ਕਾ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥

सतिगुरु

भै का बोहिथा नदरी पारि उतारु ॥४॥

ਇੱਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੀ ਐਸਾ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਤਾਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

तिलु पिआरा विसरै दुखु लागै सुखु जाइ ॥

ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਆ ਘੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁੱਖ ਚੈਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

If I forget my Beloved, even for an instant, suffering overtakes me and peace departs.

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜਲਉ ਜਲਾਵਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪੈ ਰਸਾਇ ॥

Jihavaa Jalo Jalaavanee Naam N Japai Rasaae ||

ਉਹ ਜੀਬ ਸੜ ਜਾਏ, ਐਸੀ ਜੁਬਾਨ ਫੁਕਣੀ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪ ਕੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਦਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀ ਰਹੀ।

जिहवा

जलउ जलावणी नामु न जपै रसाइ ॥

Let that tongue be burnt in flames, which does not chant the Naam with love.

ਘਟੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲੋ ਜਮੁ ਪਕੜੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥੫॥

घटु

बिनसै दुखु अगलो जमु पकड़ै पछुताइ ॥५॥

ਸਰੀਰ ਨੇ ਮਰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਲਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਾਦੋਂ ਜਮਦੂਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਰ ਪਛਾਤਾਉਣਾਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

When the pitcher of the body bursts, there is terrible pain; those who are caught by the Minister of Death regret and repent. ||5||

ਸਾਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਧੰਨ, ਪਤਨੀ, ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਮਰ ਗਏ। ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਧੰਨ

, ਪਤਨੀ, ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਆ।

Crying out, ""Mine! Mine!"", they have departed, but their bodies, their wealth, and their wives did not go with them.

ਬਗੈਰ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਧੰਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਰਸਤਾ ਭੁੱਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

Without the Name, wealth is useless; deceived by wealth, they have lost their way.

साहिबु सेवीऐ गुरमुखि अकथो काथि ॥६॥

ਸੱਚਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲੋ ਜੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

So serve the True Lord; become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken. ||6||

ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

आवै

जाइ भवाईऐ पइऐ किरति कमाइ ॥

ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ-ਜਾਂਦਾ, ਮਰਦਾ-ਜੰਮਦਾ, ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

Coming and going, people wander through reincarnation; they act according to their past actions.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਟੀਐ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥

पूरबि

लिखिआ किउ मेटीऐ लिखिआ लेखु रजाइ ॥

ਮੱਥੇ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦਾ। ਲੇਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗਣਾਂ ਪੈਣਾਂ ਹੈ।

How can one's pre-ordained destiny be erased? It is written in accordance with the Lord's Will.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

बिनु

हरि नाम न छुटीऐ गुरमति मिलै मिलाइ ॥७॥

ਇਸ ਚੱਕਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਨ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੁੱਟਣਾਂ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Without the Name of the Lord, no one can be saved. Through the Guru's Teachings, we are united in His Union. ||7||

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਨੁ ॥

तिसु

बिनु मेरा को नही जिस का जीउ परानु ॥

ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਮੇਰਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਾਹ ਹਨ।

Without Him, I have no one to call my own. My soul and my breath of life belong to Him.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਲੋਭੁ ਜਲਉ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥

Houmai Mamathaa Jal Balo Lobh Jalo Abhimaan ||

हउमै

ममता जलि बलउ लोभु जलउ अभिमानु ॥

ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਮਮਤਾ, ਮੋਹ, ਹੰਕਾਂਰ-ਮੇਰੀ ਸੜ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਵੇ, ਲਾਲਚ, ਗਰੂਰ ਸਬ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਣ।

May my egotism and possessiveness be burnt to ashes, and my greed and egotistical pride consigned to the fire.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੮॥੧੦॥

मन ऐसी हरि सिउ प्रीति करि जैसी जल कमलेहि ॥

ਹੇ ਮਨ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਡ ਕਰ ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਕਮਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O mind, love the Lord, as the lotus loves the water.

ਲਹਰੀ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਛਾੜੀਐ ਭੀ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਅਸਨੇਹਿ ॥

लहरी

नालि पछाड़ीऐ भी विगसै असनेहि ॥

ਕਮਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ, ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੱਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਪਿਆਰ-ਹੇਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Tossed about by the waves, it still blossoms with love.
