बिनु

सबदै जगु दुखीआ फिरै मनमुखा नो गई खाइ ॥

ਬਗੈਰ

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਰੋਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਪੀੜਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ ਪੀੜਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੁੱਕਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Without the Shabad, the world wanders lost in pain. The self-willed manmukh is consumed.

ਸਬਦੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥

सबदे

नामु धिआईऐ सबदे सचि समाइ ॥४॥

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Shabad, meditate on the Naam; through the Shabad, you shall merge in Truth. ||4||

ਮਾਇਆ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਿਧ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

माइआ

भूले सिध फिरहि समाधि न लगै सुभाइ ॥

ਧੰਨ

ਕਰਕੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਭੱਟਕ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਆਸਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਨਾਂ ਜੁੜ ਸਕੇ।
The Siddhas wander around, deluded by Maya; they are not absorbed in the Samaadhi of the Lord's Sublime Love.

ਤੀਨੇ ਲੋਅ ਵਿਆਪਤ ਹੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥

लोअ विआपत है अधिक रही लपटाइ ॥

ਮਾਇਆ

ਨੇ ਤਿੰਨੇ ਭਵਨਾ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਕੇ, ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੇ।
The three worlds are permeated by Maya; they are totally covered by it.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥

बिनु

गुर मुकति न पाईऐ ना दुबिधा माइआ जाइ ॥५॥

ਬਗੈਰ

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ। ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੋਲਤ ਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਮਾਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Guru, liberation is not attained, and the double-mindedness of Maya does not go away. ||5||

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

किस नो आखीऐ किआ माइआ करम कमाइ ॥

ਦੌਲਤ ਕਿਹਨੂੰ ਕਹੀਏ? ਇਹ ਧੰਨ ਮੌਤ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਲਜਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੱਤਲੱਭ ਦੀ ਹੈ?
What is called Maya? What does Maya do?

ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਬਧੁ ਹੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥

Dhukh Sukh Eaehu Jeeo Badhh Hai Houmai Karam Kamaae ||

दुखि

सुखि एहु जीउ बधु है हउमै करम कमाइ ॥

ਦਰਦ

ਅੰਨਦ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
These beings are bound by pleasure and pain; they do their deeds in egotism.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਨਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥

बिनु

सबदै भरमु न चूकई ना विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥६॥

ਬਗੈਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਹਿਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ। ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਘੁੰਮਡ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Without the Shabad, doubt is not dispelled, and egotism is not eliminated from within. ||6||

प्रीती भगति न होवई बिनु सबदै थाइ न पाइ ॥

ਬਗੈਰ

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਬਗੈਰ ਸ਼ਬਦੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
Without love, there is no devotional worship. Without the Shabad, no one finds acceptance.

ਸ਼ਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

सबदे

हउमै मारीऐ माइआ का भ्रमु जाइ ॥

ਸ਼ਬਦ

ਨਾਲ ਹੰਕਾ਼ਰ ਖੱਤਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਧੰਨ ਦਾ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਚੱਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued, and the illusion of Maya is dispelled.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੭॥

पदारथु पाईऐ गुरमुखि सहजि सुभाइ ॥७॥

ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਭੰਡਾਂਰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨੂੰ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਹੋਲੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

गुर गुण न जापनी बिनु गुण भगति न होइ ॥

ਬਗੈਰ

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਤੇ ਚੰਗ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਆਦਤਤਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਬਰਦੀਆਂ। ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਤੇ ਚੰਗ੍ਹੀਆ ਆਦਤਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀ ਬਣਦਾ।
Without the Guru, one's virtues do not shine forth; without virtue, there is no devotional worship.

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

भगति

वछलु हरि मनि वसिआ सहजि मिलिआ प्रभु सोइ ॥

ਰੱਬ

ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾਂ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਆਪੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਲੀ ਹੋਲੀ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਜੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ।
The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He abides within their minds. They meet that God with intuitive ease.

मोहु मेरै प्रभि कीना आपे भरमि भुलाए ॥

ਜੀਵ

ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਧੰਨ ਮਾਮਤਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਦੇ ਵਹਿਮ ਫਸਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Emotional attachment to Maya is created by my God; He Himself misleads us through illusion and doubt.

मनमुखि

करम करहि नही बूझहि बिरथा जनमु गवाए ॥

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ

ਮਨ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਜ਼ੂਲ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣ ਤੋ ਬਗੈਰ ਬੀਤਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
The self-willed manmukhs perform their actions, but they do not understand; they waste away their lives in vain.

ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਆਈ ਰੱਬੀ ਗੁਰੂਬਾਣੀ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦਾ ਸੂਰਜ ਹੈ। ਭਾਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪੂਰੇ ਦੀ ਵੱਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੀਏ। ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਾਹਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ, ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਹੋਲੀ-ਹੋਲੀ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

गइआ भउ भागिआ हरि चरणी चितु लाइ ॥

ਵਹਿਮ

ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਿਆ। ਡਰ ਭੱਜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹਰਿ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀਏ।
Doubt departs, and fear runs away, when you focus your consciousness on the Lord's Feet.

सबदु कमाईऐ हरि वसै मनि आइ ॥

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ

ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜੱਪਦੇ। ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਚਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਾਦ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Gurmukh practices the Shabad, and the Lord comes to dwell within the mind.

ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥

घरि

महलि सचि समाईऐ जमकालु न सकै खाइ ॥२॥

ਮਨ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਮੁੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ।

In the mansion of the home within the self, we merge in Truth, and the Messenger of Death cannot devour us. ||2||

नामा

छीबा कबीरु जोलाहा पूरे गुर ते गति पाई ॥

ਭਗਤ

ਨਾਂਮਾ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਛੀਬਿਆਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਪੜੇ ਸਿਉਣ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਜੋਲਾਹੇ ਕੱਪੜਾਂ ਬੁਨਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸੀ। ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਪਾ ਲਈ।
Naam Dayv the printer, and Kabeer the weaver, obtained salvation through the Perfect Guru.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥

ब्रहम

के बेते सबदु पछाणहि हउमै जाति गवाई ॥

ਰੱਬੀ

ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਅੱਖਰਾ ਦੀ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who know God and recognize His Shabad lose their ego and class consciousness.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਭਾਈ ॥੩॥

नर तिन की बाणी गावहि कोइ न मेटै भाई ॥३॥

ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਨਖ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹਟਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।

पुतु करम धरम किछु संजम न पड़ै दूजा भाउ न जाणै ॥

ਹਰਨਾਖਸ਼

ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਪਿਉ ਦੈਂਤ ਦੀਆ ਦੱਸੀਆਂ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ, ਪਿਤਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਧਰਮਿਕ ਰਸਮਾਂ, ਕਨੂੰਨੀ ਅੱਕਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਸੀ। ਪੁੱਤਰ ਉਸ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਸੀ।
The demon's son Prahlaad had not read about religious rituals or ceremonies, austerity or self-discipline; he did not know the love of duality.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

सतिगुरु

भेटिऐ निरमलु होआ अनदिनु नामु वखाणै ॥

ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ

ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਆਸਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅਮਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਰੱਬਾ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

पड़ै एको नाउ बूझै दूजा अवरु न जाणै ॥४॥

ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਇੱਕ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਆਉੜਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਭੇਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ, ਜੰਗਮ, ਸਰੇਵੜੇ, ਬੈਰਾਗੀ, ਬੋਧੀ ਬਗੈਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਵਹਿਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੱਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
The followers of the six different life-styles and world-views, the Yogis and the Sanyaasees have gone astray in doubt without the Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥

सेवहि ता गति मिति पावहि हरि जीउ मंनि वसाए ॥

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ

ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਕੇ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਹੀ ਮੰਜ਼ਲ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
If they serve the True Guru, they find the state of salvation; they enshrine the Dear Lord within their minds.

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੫॥

सची

बाणी सिउ चितु लागै आवणु जाणु रहाए ॥५॥

ਸੱਚਾ ਰੱਬੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

पंडित पड़ि पड़ि वादु वखाणहि बिनु गुर भरमि भुलाए ॥
ਪੰਡਤ ਧਰਮਿਕ ਵੇਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੱਖਰੇਵੇ ਝੱਗੜੇ ਖੜੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਵਹਿਮਾ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਲਝਦੇ ਹਨ।
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read and argue and stir up controversies, but without the Guru, they are deluded by doubt.
2731 ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
Lakh Chouraaseeh Faer Paeiaa Bin Sabadhai Mukath N Paaeae ||
लख चउरासीह फेरु पइआ बिनु सबदै मुकति न पाए ॥
ਚਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਉਤੇ ਆਉਣ ਜਾਣ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਬਗੈਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਚੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।
They wander around the cycle of 8.4 million reincarnations; without the Shabad, they do not attain liberation.
2732 ਜਾ ਨਾਉ ਚੇਤੈ ਤਾ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੬॥
Jaa Naao Chaethai Thaa Gath Paaeae Jaa Sathigur Mael Milaaeae ||6||
जा नाउ चेतै ता गति पाए जा सतिगुरु मेलि मिलाए ॥६॥
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਮ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਪ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਰਲਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ||6||
But when they remember the Name, then they attain the state of salvation, when the True Guru unites them in Union. ||6||
2733 ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
Sathasangath Mehi Naam Har Oupajai Jaa Sathigur Milai Subhaaeae ||
सतसंगति महि नामु हरि उपजै जा सतिगुरु मिलै सुभाए ॥
ਸੱਚੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਯਾਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
In the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the Name of the Lord wells up, when the True Guru unites us in His Sublime Love.
