के मुख उजले गुर सबदी बीचारि ॥

ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖਾ

ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਮਝ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant and bright; they reflect on the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

हलति

पलति सुखु पाइदे जपि जपि रिदै मुरारि ॥

ਲੋਕ

ਪ੍ਰਲੋਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਨਦ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
They obtain peace in this world and the next, chanting and meditating within their hearts on the Lord.

ਸਰੀਰ

ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਾਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ।
Within the home of their own inner being, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, reflecting on the Guru's Shabad. ||2||

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰਹਿ ਮਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਲੇ ॥

ते जो मुह फेरहि मथे तिन काले ॥

ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਸਤਗੁਰ

ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਘੁੰਮਕੇ ਪਾਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਾੜੇ ਲੇਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru shall have their faces blackened.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਹੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥

अनदिनु

दुख कमावदे नित जोहे जम जाले ॥

ਦਿਨ

ਰਾਤ ਦੁੱਖਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੱਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਿਤ ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Night and day, they suffer in pain; they see the noose of Death always hovering above them.

ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥੩॥

सुपनै

सुखु न देखनी बहु चिंता परजाले ॥३॥

ਸੁੱਖ

ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਘੜੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ। ਬਹੁਤ ਫਿ਼ਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜਾਉਦੇ ਹਨ।
Even in their dreams, they find no peace; they are consumed by the fires of intense anxiety. ||3||

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥

का दाता एकु है आपे बखस करेइ ॥

ਸਾਰੇ

ਜੀਵਾ ਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਇਕੋ ਹੈ। ਆਪੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The One Lord is the Giver of all; He Himself bestows all blessings.

किछू न जावई जिसु भावै तिसु देइ ॥

ਰੱਬ

ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ। ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਚਾਹੇ ਦੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
No one else has any say in this; He gives just as He pleases.

Serve your True Lord and Master, and you shall be blessed with true greatness.

परसादी मनि वसै हउमै दूरि करेइ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਚਿਤ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
By Guru's Grace, He abides in the mind, and egotism is driven out.

इहु

मनु धावतु ता रहै जा आपे नदरि करेइ ॥१॥

ਆਪੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ। This wandering mind comes to rest, when the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||

मनु तनु अंधु है तिस नउ ठउर न ठाउ ॥

ਮਨਮੁੱਖ

ਦਾ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਕਿਨਾਰਾ ਥਾਂ ਟਿਕਾਣਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
The minds and bodies of the self-willed manmukhs are filled with darkness; they find no shelter, no place of rest.

ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਉਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈਂ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥

जोनी भउदा फिरै जिउ सुंञैं घरि काउ ॥

ਬਗੈਰ ਪਾਠ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਚਰਾਸੀ

ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇ ਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਲੀ ਘਰੋ ਖਾਂਣ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ।
Through countless incarnations they wander lost, like crows in a deserted house.

घटि चानणा सबदि मिलै हरि नाउ ॥२॥

ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ||2||
Through the Guru's Teachings, the heart is illuminated. Through the Shabad, the Name of the Lord is received. ||2||

ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਦੀ ਲੋਭ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੇ ਅੰਨਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
In the corruption of the three qualities, there is blindness; in attachment to Maya, there is darkness.

ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਪੜਿ ਵੇਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥

लोभी

अन कउ सेवदे पड़ि वेदा करै पूकार ॥

ਲੋਭੀ

ਜੀਵ ਵੇਦਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਬਿਚਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਵੇਚਦੇ ਹਨ।
The greedy people serve others, instead of the Lord, although they loudly announce their reading of scriptures.

अंदरि पचि मुए ना उरवारु न पारु ॥३॥

ਵਿਕਾਰ

ਪਾਪ ਕਰਦੇ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਕੇ, ਮਰਨ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਐਸੇ ਲੋਕ ਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨੇ ਨਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ। ||3||

They are burnt to death by their own corruption; they are not at home, on either this shore or the one beyond. ||3||

मोहि विसारिआ जगत पिता प्रतिपालि ॥

ਮਾਇਆ

ਮੋਹ ਧੰਨ ਨੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਹੈ।
In attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Father, the Cherisher of the World.

गुरू अचेतु है सभ बधी जमकालि ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਤੋ ਬਿੰਨ ਮਨ ਗੁਬਾਰ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਪੰਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਮੌਤ ਨੇ ਆਉਣਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
Without the Guru, all are unconscious; they are held in bondage by the Messenger of Death.

गुण माइआ मोहु है गुरमुखि चउथा पदु पाइ ॥

ਤਿੰਨਾਂ

ਗੁਣ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਨ ਲੋਬ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
The three qualities hold people in attachment to Maya. The Gurmukh attains the fourth state of higher consciousness.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥

करि

किरपा मेलाइअनु हरि नामु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥

ਰੱਬ

ਦੀ ਆਪਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰਾਮ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
Granting His Grace, God unites us with Himself. The Name of the Lord comes to abide within the mind.

ਪੋਤੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੧॥

पोतै

जिन कै पुंनु है तिन सतसंगति मेलाइ ॥१॥

ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਉਕਰਿਆ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Those who have the treasure of goodness join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||1||

ਦੀ ਹੈਂਕੱੜ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਤਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹਾ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਚਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
Renouncing selfishness, I fall at their feet, and walk in harmony with His Will.

ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

लाहा

हरि हरि नामु मिलै सहजे नामि समाइ ॥२॥

ਮੇਹਨਤ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਲ, ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਰੱਬ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਹਰੀ ਮਨ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਜ ਅਵਸਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਨਾਲ

ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ||2||
Earning the Profit of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I am intuitively absorbed in the Naam. ||2||

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

बिनु

गुर महलु न पाईऐ नामु न परापति होइ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਰਾ, ਘਰ, ਦਰਬਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਨਾਂਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Guru, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is not found, and the Naam is not obtained.

ਐਸਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

Aisaa Sathagur Lorr Lahu Jidhoo Paaeeai Sach Soe ||

ऐसा

सतगुरु लोड़ि लहु जिदू पाईऐ सचु सोइ ॥

ਇਹ

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਲੱਭ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Seek and find such a True Guru, who shall lead you to the True Lord.

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

Asur Sanghaarai Sukh Vasai Jo This Bhaavai S Hoe ||3||

असुर

संघारै सुखि वसै जो तिसु भावै सु होइ ॥३॥

ਉਹ

ਕਾਂਮਕ ਦੈਂਤ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੁੱਖ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਲੱਗੇ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ||3||
Destroy your evil passions, and you shall dwell in peace. Whatever pleases the Lord comes to pass. ||3||

ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

Jaehaa Sathagur Kar Jaaniaa Thaeho Jaehaa Sukh Hoe ||

जेहा

सतगुरु करि जाणिआ तेहो जेहा सुखु होइ ॥

ਜੈਸੇ

ਆਦਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਰੱਬ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

As one knows the True Guru, so is the peace obtained.

ਏਹੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

Eaehu Sehasaa Moolae Naahee Bhaao Laaeae Jan Koe ||

एहु

सहसा मूले नाही भाउ लाए जनु कोइ ॥

ਇਸ

ਵਿੱਚ ਜਰਾ ਵੀ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ। ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ-ਮੱਹਬੱਤ ਕੋਈ ਹੀ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
There is no doubt at all about this, but those who love Him are very rare.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸ਼ਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੪੪॥

ਨਾਨਕ

ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਜੋਤ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
