ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਬਿੰਨ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨਣ ਤੋ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਫਜੂਲ ਜਿਉਣਾ ਹੈ।

चाखिआ तिनी सादु पाइआ बिनु चाखे भरमि भुलाइ ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਨੇ ਰਸ ਲਿਆ। ਉਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਪੀਤੇ ਭੱਟਕਣਾਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ।
Those who have tasted it, enjoy its flavor; without tasting it, they wander in doubt, lost and deceived.

साचा नामु है कहणा कछू न जाइ ॥

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਂਮ ਰਸ ਪੀ

ਕੇ, ਹੀ ਪੱਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸਪੂਰਨ ਅਸਰ ਹੈ। ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ।

The True Name is the Ambrosial Nectar; no one can describe it.

ਪੀਵਤ ਹੂ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

हू परवाणु भइआ पूरै सबदि समाइ ॥२॥

ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪੱਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਸਪੂਰਨ ਅਸਰ ਹੈ। ||2||

Drinking it in, one becomes honorable, absorbed in the Perfect Word of the Shabad. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

आपे

देइ त पाईऐ होरु करणा किछू न जाइ ॥

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਆਪ

ਹੀ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੀ ਸਕਦੇ। ਬੋਲਕੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ।

He Himself gives, and then we receive. Nothing else can be done.

ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਇ ॥

देवण

वाले कै हथि दाति है गुरू दुआरै पाइ ॥

ਰੱਬ

ਦੀ ਆਪਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਦਾਤ ਹੇ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲੋ ਉਹ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੇ।
The Gift is in the Hands of the Great Giver. At the Guru's Door, in the Gurdwara, it is received.

ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਆ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

जेहा

कीतोनु तेहा होआ जेहे करम कमाइ ॥३॥

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਿਛੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਨੇ। ਉਹੀ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਅੱਗੇ ਆਉਣੇ ਨੇ।

जतु

सतु संजमु नामु है विणु नावै निरमलु न होइ ॥

ਜਤ

ਕਾਂਮ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚਣਾਂ, ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲਣਾਂ ਉਚਾ ਕਹਾਉਣਾਂ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚਣਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਹਨ। ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋ ਬਿੰਨਾਂ ਮਨ ਸੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is abstinence, truthfulness, and self-restraint. Without the Name, no one becomes pure.

ਭਾਗਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਚੇਤੇ ਆਉਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
पूरै भागि नामु मनि वसै सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥

Through perfect good fortune, the Naam comes to abide within the mind. Through the Shabad, we merge into Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਅਡੋਲ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਰੰਗਤ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

साधै उरध तपु करै विचहु हउमै न जाइ ॥

ਸਰੀਰ

ਨੂੰ ਤਪੁ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ, ਪੁੱਠਾ ਲਟਕਾ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਦੀ ਹੈ।
You may torment your body with extremes of self-discipline, practice intensive meditation and hang upside-down, but your ego will not be eliminated from within.

ਅਧਿਆਤਮ ਕਰਮ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥

अधिआतम

करम जे करे नामु न कब ही पाइ ॥

ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ

ਨੀਜੀ ਤੇ ਧਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੀ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
You may perform religious rituals, and still never obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

गुर

कै सबदि जीवतु मरै हरि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥१॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੰਦਾ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, remain dead while yet alive, and the Name of the Lord shall come to dwell within the mind. ||1||

Listen, O my mind: hurry to the Protection of the Guru's Sanctuary.

परसादी छुटीऐ बिखु भवजलु सबदि गुर तरणा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਚ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨਾਂਮ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਤਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਭਾ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥

Thrai Gun Sabhaa Dhhaath Hai Dhoojaa Bhaao Vikaar ||

त्रै

गुण सभा धातु है दूजा भाउ विकारु ॥

ਰਜੋ

ਤਮੋ ਸਤੋ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਪਿਆਰ ਸਬ ਫਾਲਤੂ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Everything under the influence of the three qualities shall perish; the love of duality is corrupting.

ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੋਹ ਬਾਧਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

पंडितु

पड़ै बंधन मोह बाधा नह बूझै बिखिआ पिआरि ॥

ਪੰਡਤ

ਮੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਨਿਆ ਧਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਚਤ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮ ਝਦਾ।
The Pandits, the religious scholars, read the scriptures, but they are trapped in the bondage of emotional attachment. In love with evil, they do not understand.

मिलिऐ त्रिकुटी छूटै चउथै पदि मुकति दुआरु ॥२॥

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਛੁੱਟ ਕੇ,

ਚੋਥੀ ਪਦਵੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਟਿੱਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ||2||

Meeting the Guru, the bondage of the three qualities is cut away, and in the fourth state, the Door of Liberation is attained. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥

गुर

ते मारगु पाईऐ चूकै मोहु गुबारु ॥

ਗੁਰ

ਤੋ ਰਸਤਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੋਹ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ, ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰ ਰੋਕਾਂ ਅਡਿਕੇ, ਮੁਕ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।
Through the Guru, the Path is found, and the darkness of emotional attachment is dispelled.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਉਧਰੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

Sabadh Marai Thaa Oudhharai Paaeae Mokh Dhuaar ||

सबदि

मरै ता उधरै पाए मोख दुआरु ॥

ਸਬਦ

ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਕਾਬੂ ਆਉਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਘਰ-ਦਰ ਦਿਸ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੈ।
If one dies through the Shabad, then salvation is obtained, and one finds the Door of Liberation.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

गुर

परसादी मिलि रहै सचु नामु करतारु ॥३॥

ਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ। ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਂਮ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈ।

इहु

मनूआ अति सबल है छडे न कितै उपाइ ॥

ਇਹ

ਮਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਅੜੀਲਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਹਰ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ।
This mind is very powerful; we cannot escape it just by trying.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਇ ॥

Dhoojai Bhaae Dhukh Laaeidhaa Bahuthee Dhaee Sajaae ||

दूजै

भाइ दुखु लाइदा बहुती देइ सजाइ ॥

ਹੋਰਾ

ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਵੇਕਾਰ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੱਗੇ ਮਰ ਕੇ ਸਜਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
In the love of duality, people suffer in pain, condemned to terrible punishment.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੫੧॥

नामि लगे से उबरे हउमै सबदि गवाइ ॥४॥१८॥५१॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਬੱਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਰੱਬ

ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪ-ਜੱਪ ਕੇ ਪੱਕਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
By His Grace, the Guru is found, and the Name of the Lord is implanted within.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

बिनु

गुर किनै न पाइओ बिरथा जनमु गवाइ ॥

ਬਿੰਨਾਂ

ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਿਆ। ਜਨਮ ਜਾਇਆ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Without the Guru, no one has obtained it; they waste away their lives in vain.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੧॥

मनमुख

करम कमावणे दरगह मिलै सजाइ ॥१॥

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲੇਖਾ ਦਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਮਰਨ ਪਿੱਛੋ ਸਜਾ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ।

रे दूजा भाउ चुकाइ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੰਮੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
O mind, give up the love of duality.

तेरै हरि वसै गुर सेवा सुखु पाइ ॥ रहाउ ॥

ਮਨ

ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੱਬ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁੱਖ ਵਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The Lord dwells within you; serving the Guru, you shall find peace. ||Pause||

ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

Sach Baanee Sach Sabadh Hai Jaa Sach Dhharae Piaar ||

सचु

बाणी सचु सबदु है जा सचि धरे पिआरु ॥

ਸਚੀ

ਬਾਣੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਸੱਚ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੀਏ।
When you love the Truth, your words are true; they reflect the True Word of the Shabad.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥

Har Kaa Naam Man Vasai Houmai Krodhh Nivaar ||

हरि

का नामु मनि वसै हउमै क्रोधु निवारि ॥

ਹਰੀ

ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਕਾਉਦਾ ਹੈ।
The Name of the Lord dwells within the mind; egotism and anger are wiped away.

ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਤਾ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

मनि

निरमल नामु धिआईऐ ता पाए मोख दुआरु ॥२॥

ਜੀਅ ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਜੱਪ ਤਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਦਾ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

Houmai Vich Jag Binasadhaa Mar Janmai Aavai Jaae ||

हउमै

विचि जगु बिनसदा मरि जमै आवै जाइ ॥

ਹਉਮੇ

ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਚੱਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਮਰਦੀ ਜੰਮਦੀ ਹੈ।
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes. It dies and is re-born; it continues coming and going in reincarnation.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥

मनमुख

सबदु न जाणनी जासनि पति गवाइ ॥

ਮਨਮੁੱਖ

ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੱਮਝਦੇ। ਲਾਜ ਲੁਆ ਲੈਦੇਂ ਹਨ।
The self-willed manmukhs do not recognize the Shabad; they forfeit their honor, and depart in disgrace.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

गुर

सेवा नाउ पाईऐ सचे रहै समाइ ॥३॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਕੇ ਸੱਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਚ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।
