ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਇਰਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ।
The Gurmukh puts out the four fires, with the Water of the Lord's Name.

ਅੰਦਰ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਜਵੇਗਾ। ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਆ ਜਵੇਗਾ।
The lotus blossoms deep within the heart, and filled with Ambrosial Nectar, one is satisfied.

Meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, O my beloved; follow the Guru's Teachings, and speak of the Lord.

सच कसवटी लाईऐ तुलीऐ पूरै तोलि ॥

ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਘੜ ਤੇ ਇਧਰ ਓਧਰ ਭੱਟਕਣ ਤੋ ਬਚਾ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਸਾਹ ਜੱਪ।
Apply the Touchstone of Truth to your mind, and see if it comes up to its full weight.

कीमति

किनै न पाईऐ रिद माणक मोलि अमोलि ॥१॥

ਮਨ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਮਹਿੰਗੇ ਖਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਲੁਕੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਗਣੇ, ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਹੋਣੇ ਹਨ।

ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਬਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਕਰ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ, ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਕਰ।
The True Guru is found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. Day and night, praise the Word of His Shabad. ||1||Pause||

वखरु धनु रासि लै पाईऐ गुर परगासि ॥

ਸੱਚ

ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਵਸਤ ਸਦਾਵੀ ਧੰਨ ਹੈ। ਅੰਨਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਦ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਹੈ।
The True Merchandise, Wealth and Capital are obtained through the Radiant Light of the Guru.

ਜਿਉ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਰੈ ਜਲਿ ਪਾਇਐ ਤਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਿ ॥

जिउ

अगनि मरै जलि पाइऐ तिउ त्रिसना दासनि दासि ॥

ਅੱਗ

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਝ ਜਾਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਵੇਂ ਲਾਲਚ ਤਮਾ ਵੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਦੀ ਹੈ।

Just as fire is extinguished by pouring on water, desire becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves.

ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਇਉ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਤਰਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

जंदारु न लगई इउ भउजलु तरै तरासि ॥२॥

ਜਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ। ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਚਰਾਸੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।

The Messenger of Death will not touch you; in this way, you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, carrying others across with you. ||2||

ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਤੋ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਨੇ।
The Gurmukhs do not like falsehood. They are imbued with Truth; they love only Truth.

ਸਾਕਤ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜੀ ਪਾਂਇ ॥

साकत

सचु न भावई कूड़ै कूड़ी पांइ ॥

ਲਾਲਚੀ

ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਮ ਵਧੀਆ ਨਹੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ। ਵਿਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not like the Truth; false are the foundations of the false.

ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿਐ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥

रते गुरि मेलिऐ सचे सचि समाइ ॥३॥

ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਵਾਲਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਹੀਰੁ ॥

Man Mehi Maanak Laal Naam Rathan Padhaarathh Heer ||

मन

महि माणकु लालु नामु रतनु पदारथु हीरु ॥

ਮਨ

ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਸੋਮੇ ਮਾਣਕ, ਲਾਲ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

Within the mind are emeralds and rubies, the Jewel of the Naam, treasures and diamonds.

ਨਾਂਮ ਵੱਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਹੈ। ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਹੈ।
The Naam is the True Merchandise and Wealth; in each and every heart, His Presence is deep and profound.

ਲਿਖਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਰਾਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the Diamond of the Lord, by His Kindness and Compassion. ||4||21||

भरमे

भाहि न विझवै जे भवै दिसंतर देसु ॥

ਦੇਸ

ਬਦੇਸ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਲਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੱਟਦਾ। ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ।
The fire of doubt is not extinguished, even by wandering through foreign lands and countries.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥

मैलु न उतरै ध्रिगु जीवणु ध्रिगु वेसु ॥

ਮਨ

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਜੀਣ ਤੋਂ ਭੇਸ ਬਣਉਣ ਤੇ ਫਿੱਟਕਾਰਾ ਹਨ।
If inner filth is not removed, one's life is cursed, and one's clothes are cursed.

ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥੧॥

होरु

कितै भगति न होवई बिनु सतिगुर के उपदेस ॥१॥

ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਜੀਵ ਲਈ ਇਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੋਕਾ ਹੈ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।

O mind, become Gurmukh, and extinguish the fire within.

मनु

माणकु निरमोलु है राम नामि पति पाइ ॥

ਮਨ

ਅਨਮੋਲ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾਂ ਹੈ। ਰਾਮ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਨ।
The jewel of the mind is priceless; through the Name of the Lord, honor is obtained.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

मिलि

सतसंगति हरि पाईऐ गुरमुखि हरि लिव लाइ ॥

ਰੱਬ

ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
Join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and find the Lord. The Gurmukh embraces love for the Lord.

ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਲਲੈ ਸਲਲ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥

Aap Gaeiaa Sukh Paaeiaa Mil Salalai Salal Samaae ||2||

आपु

गइआ सुखु पाइआ मिलि सललै सलल समाइ ॥२॥

ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੋਦ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਕਾ ਕੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਵਿੱਚ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ।

Give up your selfishness, and you shall find peace; like water mingling with water, you shall merge in absorption. ||2||

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੁ ਅਉਗੁਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

जिनि

हरि हरि नामु न चेतिओ सु अउगुणि आवै जाइ ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਲਾਪਿਆ, ਚੇਤੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮਾੜੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ, ਜਨਮਦੇ ਮਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those who have not contemplated the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are unworthy; they come and go in reincarnation.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੁ ਭਉਜਲਿ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥

जिसु

सतगुरु पुरखु न भेटिओ सु भउजलि पचै पचाइ ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਅਰਪਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹ ਚਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੇੜੇ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
One who has not met with the True Guru, the Primal Being, is bothered and bewildered in the terrifying world-ocean.

ਇਹੁ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ਇਉ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥

Eihu Maanak Jeeo Niramol Hai Eio Kouddee Badhalai Jaae ||3||

इहु

माणकु जीउ निरमोलु है इउ कउडी बदलै जाइ ॥३॥

ਇਹ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਨਮੋਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਨਾਂਮ ਤੋ ਬਿੰਨ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਬਗੈਰ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇ ਬੀਤ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

This jewel of the soul is priceless, and yet it is being squandered like this, in exchange for a mere shell. ||3||

ਜਿੰਨਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਰਸਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਣ ॥

जिंना

सतगुरु रसि मिलै से पूरे पुरख सुजाण ॥

ਜਿਸ

ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਦੀ ਮੋਜ਼ ਮਾਨਣ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਜੀ ਆ ਕੇ ਅੱਕਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਬੱਣ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
Those who joyfully meet with the True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and wise.

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਲੰਘੀਐ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
