भरीऐ

हथु पैरु तनु देह ॥

ਹੱਥ, ਪੇਰ, ਸਰੀਰ, ਤਨ ਲਿਬੜ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ।

When the hands and the feet and the body are dirty,

ਪਾਣੀ ਧੋਤੈ ਉਤਰਸੁ ਖੇਹ ॥

Paanee Dhhothai Outharas Khaeh ||

पाणी

धोतै उतरसु खेह ॥

ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਣ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੈਲ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Water can wash away the dirt.

ਮੂਤ ਪਲੀਤੀ ਕਪੜੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

Mooth Paleethee Kaparr Hoe ||

मूत

पलीती कपड़ु होइ ॥

ਕੱਪੜਾ ਮਲ-ਮੂਤਰ, ਗੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।

When the clothes are soiled and stained by urine,

ਦੇ ਸਾਬੂਣੁ ਲਈਐ ਓਹੁ ਧੋਇ ॥

Dhae Saaboon Leeai Ouhu Dhhoe ||

दे

साबूणु लईऐ ओहु धोइ ॥

ਸਾਬਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਫ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Soap can wash them clean.

ਭਰੀਐ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥

Bhareeai Math Paapaa Kai Sang ||

भरीऐ

मति पापा कै संगि ॥

ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਮਾਂੜੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

But when the intellect is stained and polluted by sin,

ਓਹੁ ਧੋਪੈ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥

Ouhu Dhhopai Naavai Kai Rang ||

ओहु

धोपै नावै कै रंगि ॥

ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਧੋਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

It can only be cleansed by the Love of the Name.

ਪੁੰਨੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਆਖਣੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

Punnee Paapee Aakhan Naahi ||

पुंनी

पापी आखणु नाहि ॥

ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪ ਕਹਿੱਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।

Virtue and vice do not come by mere words;

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਹੁ ॥

Kar Kar Karanaa Likh Lai Jaahu ||

करि

करि करणा लिखि लै जाहु ॥

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀਂ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Actions repeated, over and over again, are engraved on the soul.

ਆਪੇ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਹੁ ॥

Aapae Beej Aapae Hee Khaahu ||

आपे

बीजि आपे ही खाहु ॥

ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਉਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਲ ਭੁਗਤਣਾਂ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ।

You shall harvest what you plant.

हुकमी आवहु जाहु ॥२०॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਲਿਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਫ਼ਲ ਬੀਜੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕਿ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੇੜੇ ਲੱਗਣੇ ਹਨ।

O Nanak, by the Hukam of God's Command, we come and go in reincarnation. ||20||
