भाइ बिरथा जनमु गवाए ॥

ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਜਨਮ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

In love with duality, they waste away their lives in vain.

ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

Aap Ddubae Sagalae Kul Ddobae Koorr Bol Bikh Khaavaniaa ||6||

आपि

डुबे सगले कुल डोबे कूड़ु बोलि बिखु खावणिआ ॥६॥

ਆਪ

ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੁਝ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਲ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਲਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਖਾਂਣ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੈ। ||6||

They drown themselves, and drown their entire family; speaking lies, they eat poison. ||6||

ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਖੈ ॥

इसु

तन महि मनु को गुरमुखि देखै ॥

ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, look within their bodies, into their minds.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥

भाइ

भगति जा हउमै सोखै ॥

ਰੱਬ ਪਿਆਰ ਰਹਿੱਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Through loving devotion, their ego evaporates.

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

साधिक मोनिधारी रहे लिव लाइ तिन भी तन महि मनु न दिखावणिआ ॥७॥

ਸਾਧ

ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ, ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਨਾਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ, ਸੁਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕੇ ਹਨ।

The Siddhas, the seekers and the silent sages continually, lovingly focus their consciousness, but they have not seen the mind within the body. ||7||

ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

आपि

कराए करता सोई ॥

ਜੋ ਆਪ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ

, ਉਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Creator Himself inspires us to work;

ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥

होरु

कि करे कीतै किआ होई ॥

ਹੋਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੀ ਹੋਣਾਂ ਹੈ

? ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

What can anyone else do? What can be done by our doing?

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਾਪ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਭਾਂਲ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Within this cave, there is an inexhaustible treasure.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

This Vich Vasai Har Alakh Apaaraa ||

तिसु

विचि वसै हरि अलख अपारा ॥

ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਭੰਡਾਂਰ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ।

Within this cave, the Invisible and Infinite Lord abides.

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਵੰਞਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

गुपतु परगटु है आपे गुर सबदी आपु वंञावणिआ ॥१॥

ਆਪ

ਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਹਰ ਥਾ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਨਹੀ, ਲੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਹਮਣੇ ਦਿਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁੱਝ ਦਿਸਣ, ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ||1||

He Himself is hidden, and He Himself is revealed; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, selfishness and conceit are eliminated. ||1||

वारी जीउ वारी अम्रित नामु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਊਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, within their minds.

ਰਸ ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਰਸ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸ ਪੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ||1|| ਰਹਾਉ ||

The taste of the Ambrosial Naam is very sweet! Through the Guru's Teachings, drink in this Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

Houmai Maar Bajar Kapaatt Khulaaeiaa ||

हउमै

मारि बजर कपाट खुलाइआ ॥

ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਮਾਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਭੇਤ ਖੁੱਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

Subduing egotism, the rigid doors are opened.

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Naam Amolak Gur Parasaadhee Paaeiaa ||

नामु

अमोलकु गुर परसादी पाइआ ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Priceless Naam is obtained by Guru's Grace.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

Bin Sabadhai Naam N Paaeae Koee Gur Kirapaa Mann Vasaavaniaa ||2||

बिनु

सबदै नामु न पाए कोई गुर किरपा मंनि वसावणिआ ॥२॥

ਬਗੈਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ

, ਨਾਂਮ ਰਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ||2||

Without the Shabad, the Naam is not obtained. By Guru's Grace, it is implanted within the mind. ||2||

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

गुर

गिआन अंजनु सचु नेत्री पाइआ ॥

ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਸੁਰਮੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Guru has applied the true ointment of spiritual wisdom to my eyes.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

Anthar Chaanan Agiaan Andhhaer Gavaaeiaa ||

अंतरि

चानणु अगिआनु अंधेरु गवाइआ ॥

ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਨੇਰਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Deep within, the Divine Light has dawned, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

Jothee Joth Milee Man Maaniaa Har Dhar Sobhaa Paavaniaa ||3||

जोती

जोति मिली मनु मानिआ हरि दरि सोभा पावणिआ ॥३॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋਤ ਮਨ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਣ ਨਾਲ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਬਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਲ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਣ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥

भालणि को बाहरि जाए ॥

ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋਤ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਭਾਲਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Those who look outside the body, searching for the Lord,

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

नामु

न लहै बहुतु वेगारि दुखु पाए ॥

ਜੋ ਰੱਬ

ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜੋੜਦੇ। ਬੇਕਾਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਮਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Shall not receive the Naam; they shall instead be forced to suffer the terrible pains of slavery.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਘਿਰਿ ਆਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਥੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

Manamukh Andhhae Soojhai Naahee Fir Ghir Aae Guramukh Vathh Paavaniaa ||4||

मनमुख

अंधे सूझै नाही फिरि घिरि आइ गुरमुखि वथु पावणिआ ॥४॥

ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਮਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦੀ। ਅਖੀਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The blind, self-willed manmukhs do not understand; but when they return once again to their own home, then, as Gurmukh, they find the genuine article. ||4||

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

गुर

परसादी सचा हरि पाए ॥

ਗੁਰੂ

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, the True Lord is found.

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥

Man Than Vaekhai Houmai Mail Jaaeae ||

मनि

तनि वेखै हउमै मैलु जाए ॥

ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Within your mind and body, see the Lord, and the filth of egotism shall depart.

ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਸਦ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

Bais Suthhaan Sadh Har Gun Gaavai Sachai Sabadh Samaavaniaa ||5||

बैसि

सुथानि सद हरि गुण गावै सचै सबदि समावणिआ ॥५॥

ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁੱਧ ਹੋਏ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ||5||

Sitting in that place, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord forever, and be absorbed in the True Word of the Shabad. ||5||

ਨਉ ਦਰ ਠਾਕੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥

No Dhar Thaakae Dhhaavath Rehaaeae ||

नउ

दर ठाके धावतु रहाए ॥

ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਨੌ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਤੋਂ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮਨ ਸੁੱਧ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।

Those who close off the nine gates, and restrain the wandering mind,

ਦਸਵੈ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਏ ॥

Dhasavai Nij Ghar Vaasaa Paaeae ||

दसवै

निज घरि वासा पाए ॥

ਉਚੀ ਸੁੱਧ ਸੁਰਤ ਰਾਹੀ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Come to dwell in the Home of the Tenth Gate.

ਓਥੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

Outhhai Anehadh Sabadh Vajehi Dhin Raathee Guramathee Sabadh Sunaavaniaa ||6||

ओथै

अनहद सबद वजहि दिनु राती गुरमती सबदु सुणावणिआ ॥६॥

ਉਦੋਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਧੁਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਨਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ।

There, the Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates day and night. Through the Guru's Teachings, the Shabad is heard. ||6||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਨੇਰਾ ॥

सबदै अंतरि आनेरा ॥

ਬਗੈਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਹੈ।

Without the Shabad, there is only darkness within.

ਨ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥

न

वसतु लहै न चूकै फेरा ॥

ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਂਮ ਲੱਭਦਾ, ਧਿਆਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ।

The genuine article is not found, and the cycle of reincarnation does not end.

ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਚਾਬੀ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਚੰਗੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

परगटु तूं सभनी थाई ॥

ਰੱਬ ਜੀ ਤੁੰ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ। ਦਿਸਦਾ ਨਹੀ, ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਦੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਅੱਖ, ਮੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

You are the hidden and the revealed in all places.

ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਅੱਕਲ ਆਈ ਹੈ।

ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿ, ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੱਣ ਨਾਲ

ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukhs meet the Lord, and inspire others to meet Him as well.

ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥

कालु

न जोहै दुखु न संतापे ॥

ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਡਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ। ਦਰਦ ਮਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਤੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ।

Death does not see them, and pain does not afflict them.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਭ ਤੋੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

हउमै

मारि बंधन सभ तोड़ै गुरमुखि सबदि सुहावणिआ ॥१॥

ਜੀਵ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ, ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ, ਦੁੱਖ, ਮਾਇਆ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ, ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ||1||

Subduing egotism, they break all their bonds; as Gurmukh, they are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

वारी जीउ वारी हरि हरि नामि सुहावणिआ ॥

ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਸਦਕੇ, ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਊਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਮ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who look beautiful in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋ ਮਨ ਮੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
