गलि जेवरी धंधै लपटाइ ॥
ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਗਲ਼ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕੰਮ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
The noose is around his neck, and he is entangled in petty conflicts.
9799 ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੫॥

गुरमुखि छूटसि हरि गुण गाइ ॥५॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਰੱਬ-ਰੱਬ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ||5||

जिउ तनु बिधवा पर कउ देई ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਰਦ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਟਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The lonely widow gives her body to a stranger;
9801 ਕਾਮਿ ਦਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਪਰ ਵਸਿ ਸੇਈ ॥
Kaam Dhaam Chith Par Vas Saeee ||
कामि दामि चितु पर वसि सेई ॥
ਬਿਧਵਾ ਔਰਤ ਕਾਂਮ ਸੈਕਸ ਤੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਨੂੰ, ਆਪਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੋਰ ਮਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
She allows her mind to be controlled by others for lust or money and sex.
9802 ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥

Without her husband, she is never satisfied. ||6||

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ-ਮੁੜ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ॥

9805 ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਟਾ ॥੭॥
Bin Ras Raathae Man Bahu Naattaa ||7||
बिनु रस राते मनु बहु नाटा ॥७॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਤੋਂ ਚਿਤ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ ||7||
But without being imbued with the God's essence, the mind wanders endlessly. ||7||
9806 ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥

जिउ चात्रिक जल प्रेम पिआसा ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੀਂਹ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ, ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ. ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ॥
As the rainbird thirsts longingly for the drop of rain.
9807 ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਲਾਸਾ ॥
Jio Meenaa Jal Maahi Oulaasaa ||
जिउ मीना जल माहि उलासा ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹਾ ਕੇ, ਮੱਛੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
And as the fish delights in the water.
9808 ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਾ ॥੮॥੧੧॥

ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ-ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਲਈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਐਸੇ ਪੰਖਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ॥
One who dies in stubbornness shall not be approved.
9811 ਵੇਸ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥

वेस करै बहु भसम लगावै ॥
ਕਈ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ, ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਰੰਗ ਵੱਟਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ॥
Even though he may wear religious robes and smear his body all over with ashes.
9812 ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
Naam Bisaar Bahur Pashhuthaavai ||1||
नामु बिसारि बहुरि पछुतावै ॥१॥
ਸਭ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮਰਕੇ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ||1||

Believe in the Dear Lord, and you shall find peace of mind.

The smell of musk, sandalwood and camphor;

माइआ मगनु परम पदु दूरि ॥
ਧੰਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੱਣ ਸਕਦਾ॥
And the intoxication of Maya, takes one far away from the state of supreme dignity.
9817 ਨਾਮਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਐ ਸਭੁ ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂਰਿ ॥੨॥

नामि बिसारिऐ सभु कूड़ो कूरि ॥२॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲਾ ਕੇ, ਸਬ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾ, ਬੰਦੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਨਾਸ਼ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ ||2||
Forgetting the Naam, one becomes the most false of all the false. ||2||

9819 ਅਧਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕਾਮੁ ॥
Adhhakee Thrisanaa Viaapai Kaam ||
अधकी त्रिसना विआपै कामु ॥
ਇਸ ਤਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਾਲਚ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
Only increase his desire; he is engrossed in sexual desire.
9820 ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਚੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੩॥

बिनु हरि जाचे भगति न नामु ॥३॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ||3||
Without seeking the Lord, neither devotional worship nor the Naam are obtained. ||3||
9821 ਵਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਾ ॥
Vaadh Ahankaar Naahee Prabh Maelaa ||
वादि अहंकारि नाही प्रभ मेला ॥
ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ॥
Union with God is not obtained by arguments and egotism.
9822 ਮਨੁ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
Man Dhae Paavehi Naam Suhaelaa ||
मनु दे पावहि नामु सुहेला ॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦਾ ਚਿਤ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੌਪ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
But by offering your mind, the comfort of the Naam is obtained.
9823 ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੪॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Agiaan Dhuhaelaa ||4||
दूजै भाइ अगिआनु दुहेला ॥४॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਧੰਨ, ਮੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦਾ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ, ਮਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ||4||
In the love of duality and ignorance, you shall suffer. ||4||
9824 ਬਿਨੁ ਦਮ ਕੇ ਸਉਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਟ ॥
Bin Dham Kae Soudhaa Nehee Haatt ||
बिनु दम के सउदा नही हाट ॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਸਤੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਨਾਂ ਹੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ॥
Without money, you cannot buy anything in the store.
9825 ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹੀ ਵਾਟ ॥
Bin Bohithh Saagar Nehee Vaatt ||
बिनु बोहिथ सागर नही वाट ॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ॥
Without a boat, you cannot cross over the ocean.
9826 ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਘਾਟੇ ਘਾਟਿ ॥੫॥

बिनु गुर सेवे घाटे घाटि ॥५॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੱਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਬਰਕੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਕਮੀ, ਉਣਤਾਂਈ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ||5||
Without serving the Sathigur Guru, everything is lost. ||5||

Acting in egotism, the God is not known, even by wearing religious robes.

ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ-ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਹਾਂਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ॥
By actions done in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the True God is not obtained.

ਜਦੋਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਮ ਪਿਤਾ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਨ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
But when egotism departs, then the state of supreme dignity is obtained. ||1||Pause||

हउमै करि राजे बहु धावहि ॥
ਰਾਜੇ, ਧਰਮੀ ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
The kings act in egotism, and undertake all sorts of expeditions.
9842 ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
Houmai Khapehi Janam Mar Aavehi ||2||
हउमै खपहि जनमि मरि आवहि ॥२॥
ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ||2||
But through their egotism, they are ruined; they die, only to be reborn over and over again. ||2||
9843 ਹਉਮੈ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ॥

Egotism is overcome only by contemplating the Word of the Sathigur 's Shabad.
9844 ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥੩॥

चंचल मति तिआगै पंच संघारै ॥३॥
ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ-ਅੱਕਲ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ||3||
One who restrains his fickle mind subdues the five passions. ||3||
9845 ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥

अंतरि साचु सहज घरि आवहि ॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ, ਤਨ-ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਟਿੱਕਾ-ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ॥
With the True God deep within the self, the Celestial Mansion is intuitively found.
9846 ਰਾਜਨੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥੪॥

Understanding the Sovereign God, the state of supreme dignity is obtained. ||4||

The Sathigur dispels the doubts of those whose actions are true.
9848 ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੫॥

निरभउ कै घरि ताड़ी लावै ॥५॥
ਜੋ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਿਡਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਦਾ ||5||
They focus their attention on the Home of the Fearless God. ||5||
9849 ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਰਣਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

हउ हउ करि मरणा किआ पावै ॥
ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਿੱਤ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ, ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ॥
Those who act in egotism, selfishness and conceit die, what do they gain?
9850 ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੋ ਝਗਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
Pooraa Gur Bhaettae So Jhagar Chukaavai ||6||
पूरा गुरु भेटे सो झगरु चुकावै ॥६॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼, ਮਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੁੱਖ, ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||6||
Those who meet the Perfect Sathigur are rid of all conflicts. ||6||
9851 ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਕਿਹੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Jaethee Hai Thaethee Kihu Naahee ||
जेती है तेती किहु नाही ॥
ਲੋਕ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਵੀ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ॥
Whatever exists, is in reality nothing.
9852 ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਭੇਟਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹੀ ॥੭॥

गुरमुखि गिआन भेटि गुण गाही ॥७॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਿਚਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਾਂਸਲ ਕਰਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ॥
Btaining spiritual wisdom from the Sathigur, I sing the Glories of God. ||7||
ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਚੀਤੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਡੋਲਾਇ ॥
Par Ghar Cheeth Manamukh Ddolaae ||
पर घरि चीतु मनमुखि डोलाइ ॥
The self-willed manmukh is lured by another man's wife.
9798 ਗਲਿ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
Gal Jaevaree Dhhandhhai Lapattaae ||
गलि जेवरी धंधै लपटाइ ॥
ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਗਲ਼ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕੰਮ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
The noose is around his neck, and he is entangled in petty conflicts.
9799 ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੫॥
Guramukh Shhoottas Har Gun Gaae ||5||
गुरमुखि छूटसि हरि गुण गाइ ॥५॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਰੱਬ-ਰੱਬ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ||5||
The Sathigur's Gurmukh is emancipated, singing the Glorious Praises of the God. ||5||
9800 ਜਿਉ ਤਨੁ ਬਿਧਵਾ ਪਰ ਕਉ ਦੇਈ ॥
Jio Than Bidhhavaa Par Ko Dhaeee ||
जिउ तनु बिधवा पर कउ देई ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਕਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮਰਦ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਟਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
The lonely widow gives her body to a stranger;
9801 ਕਾਮਿ ਦਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਪਰ ਵਸਿ ਸੇਈ ॥

कामि दामि चितु पर वसि सेई ॥
ਬਿਧਵਾ ਔਰਤ ਕਾਂਮ ਸੈਕਸ ਤੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਨੂੰ, ਆਪਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਹੋਰ ਮਰਦ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
She allows her mind to be controlled by others for lust or money and sex.
9802 ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥

बिनु पिर त्रिपति न कबहूं होई ॥६॥
ਆਪਦੇ ਖ਼ਸਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਤੱਸਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ||6||
Without her husband, she is never satisfied. ||6||
9803 ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੋਥੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪਾਠਾ ॥

पड़ि पड़ि पोथी सिम्रिति पाठा ॥
ਪੰਡਤ ਧਰਮਿਕ ਗ੍ਰੰਥਿ ਪੋਥੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪਾਠ ਬਾਰ-ਬਾਰ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ॥

9804 ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਪੜੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਥਾਟਾ ॥
Baedh Puraan Parrai Sun Thhaattaa ||
बेद पुराण पड़ै सुणि थाटा ॥
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ-ਮੁੜ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ॥
The Simritees, Vedas and Puraanas.
9805 ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਟਾ ॥੭॥
Bin Ras Raathae Man Bahu Naattaa ||7||
बिनु रस राते मनु बहु नाटा ॥७॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਤੋਂ ਚਿਤ ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ ||7||
But without being imbued with the God's essence, the mind wanders endlessly. ||7||
9806 ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
Jio Chaathrik Jal Praem Piaasaa ||
जिउ चात्रिक जल प्रेम पिआसा ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੀਂਹ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ, ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ. ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ॥
As the rainbird thirsts longingly for the drop of rain.
9807 ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਜਲ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਲਾਸਾ ॥
Jio Meenaa Jal Maahi Oulaasaa ||
जिउ मीना जल माहि उलासा ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹਾ ਕੇ, ਮੱਛੀ ਮਸਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
And as the fish delights in the water.
9808 ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਾ ॥੮॥੧੧॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ, ਰੱਬ-ਰੱਬ ਕਰਕੇ ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ||8||11||

ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬੰਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ-ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਤਸੀਹੇ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਲਈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਐਸੇ ਪੰਖਡ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ॥
One who dies in stubbornness shall not be approved.
9811 ਵੇਸ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
Vaes Karai Bahu Bhasam Lagaavai ||
वेस करै बहु भसम लगावै ॥
ਕਈ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ, ਪਹਿਰਾਵੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਰੰਗ ਵੱਟਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਆਹ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ॥
Even though he may wear religious robes and smear his body all over with ashes.
9812 ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
Naam Bisaar Bahur Pashhuthaavai ||1||
नामु बिसारि बहुरि पछुतावै ॥१॥
ਸਭ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਹੈ, ਜੇ ਉਸ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮਰਕੇ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ||1||
Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he comes to regret and repent in the end. ||1||

तूं मनि हरि जीउ तूं मनि सूख ॥
ਚਿਤ-ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖ, ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ, ਅੰਨਦ, ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਂਣ॥
Believe in the Dear Lord, and you shall find peace of mind.
9814 ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਸਹਹਿ ਜਮ ਦੂਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਭੁੱਲਾ ਕੇ, ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਜੰਮਦੂਤ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਟ-ਮਾਰ ਖਾਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Forgetting the Naam, you shall have to endure the pain of death. ||1||Pause||

The smell of musk, sandalwood and camphor;

माइआ मगनु परम पदु दूरि ॥
ਧੰਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ, ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੱਣ ਸਕਦਾ॥
And the intoxication of Maya, takes one far away from the state of supreme dignity.

ਇਸ ਤਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਾਲਚ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
Only increase his desire; he is engrossed in sexual desire.
9820 ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਚੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੩॥

बिनु हरि जाचे भगति न नामु ॥३॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਬਗੈਰ, ਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ||3||
Without seeking the Lord, neither devotional worship nor the Naam are obtained. ||3||
9821 ਵਾਦਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਲਾ ॥

वादि अहंकारि नाही प्रभ मेला ॥
ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ॥
Union with God is not obtained by arguments and egotism.
9822 ਮਨੁ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
Man Dhae Paavehi Naam Suhaelaa ||
मनु दे पावहि नामु सुहेला ॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦਾ ਚਿਤ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੌਪ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
But by offering your mind, the comfort of the Naam is obtained.
9823 ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੪॥
Dhoojai Bhaae Agiaan Dhuhaelaa ||4||
दूजै भाइ अगिआनु दुहेला ॥४॥
ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਧੰਨ, ਮੋਹ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ, ਬੰਦਾ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ, ਮਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ||4||
In the love of duality and ignorance, you shall suffer. ||4||
9824 ਬਿਨੁ ਦਮ ਕੇ ਸਉਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਹਾਟ ॥
Bin Dham Kae Soudhaa Nehee Haatt ||
बिनु दम के सउदा नही हाट ॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਪੈਸੇ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਸਤੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਨਾਂ ਹੱਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਮਾਲ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ॥
Without money, you cannot buy anything in the store.
9825 ਬਿਨੁ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਹੀ ਵਾਟ ॥

बिनु बोहिथ सागर नही वाट ॥
ਬਗੈਰ ਸਮੁੰਦਰੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ॥
Without a boat, you cannot cross over the ocean.
9826 ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਘਾਟੇ ਘਾਟਿ ॥੫॥

बिनु गुर सेवे घाटे घाटि ॥५॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੱਪਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ ਬਰਕੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਕਮੀ, ਉਣਤਾਂਈ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ||5||
Without serving the Sathigur Guru, everything is lost. ||5||

Without the God Naam, how can I live, mother?

Night and day, I chant it; I remain in the Protection of Your Sanctuary God .

Acting in egotism, the God is not known, even by wearing religious robes.

ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ-ਪ੍ਰਮਾਤਮਾਂ ਹਾਂਸਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ॥
By actions done in egotism, selfishness and conceit, the True God is not obtained.
9840 ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

हउमै जाइ परम पदु पाईऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਮ ਪਿਤਾ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਨ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
But when egotism departs, then the state of supreme dignity is obtained. ||1||Pause||
9841 ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵਹਿ ॥

हउमै करि राजे बहु धावहि ॥
ਰਾਜੇ, ਧਰਮੀ ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ॥
The kings act in egotism, and undertake all sorts of expeditions.
9842 ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
Houmai Khapehi Janam Mar Aavehi ||2||
हउमै खपहि जनमि मरि आवहि ॥२॥
ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹਨ ||2||
But through their egotism, they are ruined; they die, only to be reborn over and over again. ||2||
9843 ਹਉਮੈ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ॥

हउमै निवरै गुर सबदु वीचारै ॥
ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਤੇ, ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੀਏ॥
Egotism is overcome only by contemplating the Word of the Sathigur 's Shabad.
9844 ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
Chanchal Math Thiaagai Panch Sanghaarai ||3||
चंचल मति तिआगै पंच संघारै ॥३॥
ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨੀਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਧੀ-ਅੱਕਲ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ||3||
One who restrains his fickle mind subdues the five passions. ||3||
9845 ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥

अंतरि साचु सहज घरि आवहि ॥
ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ, ਤਨ-ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਟਿੱਕਾ-ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ॥
With the True God deep within the self, the Celestial Mansion is intuitively found.
9846 ਰਾਜਨੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥੪॥

राजनु जाणि परम गति पावहि ॥४॥
ਰਾਜਾ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ-ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ, ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਂਸਲ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ||4||
Understanding the Sovereign God, the state of supreme dignity is obtained. ||4||
9847 ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥

सचु करणी गुरु भरमु चुकावै ॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਰੱਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ, ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਡਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ, ਵਹਿਮਾਂ, ਡਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੱਕਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ॥
The Sathigur dispels the doubts of those whose actions are true.
9848 ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੫॥

निरभउ कै घरि ताड़ी लावै ॥५॥
ਜੋ ਬੰਦਾ ਨਿਡਰ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਰਦਾ ||5||
They focus their attention on the Home of the Fearless God. ||5||
9849 ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਿ ਮਰਣਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Ho Ho Kar Maranaa Kiaa Paavai ||
हउ हउ करि मरणा किआ पावै ॥
ਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੈਂ-ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਨਿੱਤ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਗੈਰ, ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ॥
Those who act in egotism, selfishness and conceit die, what do they gain?
9850 ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੋ ਝਗਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ॥੬॥
Pooraa Gur Bhaettae So Jhagar Chukaavai ||6||
पूरा गुरु भेटे सो झगरु चुकावै ॥६॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਪੂਰਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲੇਸ਼, ਮਸੀਬਤਾਂ ਦੁੱਖ, ਰੋਗ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||6||
Those who meet the Perfect Sathigur are rid of all conflicts. ||6||
9851 ਜੇਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇਤੀ ਕਿਹੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
Jaethee Hai Thaethee Kihu Naahee ||
जेती है तेती किहु नाही ॥
ਲੋਕ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਵੀ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਲਈ ਮੇਹਨਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ॥
Whatever exists, is in reality nothing.
9852 ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਭੇਟਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਹੀ ॥੭॥

गुरमुखि गिआन भेटि गुण गाही ॥७॥
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਿਚਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹਾਂਸਲ ਕਰਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਸਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ॥
