ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਕ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਕਲਬੂਤ ਦੀ ਹਥਣੀ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ[ ਹਥਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਕਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਾਥੀ ਫੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।
Like the straw figure of a female elephant, fashioned to trap the bull elephant, O crazy mind, the Lord of the Universe has staged the drama of this world.

ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੰਕਸ-ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀ ਸੀਖ ਜੋ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਰਨ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧੌਣ ਉਤੇ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਮਲਾ ਮਨ ਕਾਂਮ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ||1||
Attracted by the lure of sexual desire, the elephant is captured, O crazy mind, and now the halter is placed around its neck. ||1||

ਬਾਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਮ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਮਦਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਧੋਖੇ ਨਾਲ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ ॥
The monkey stretches out its hand, O crazy mind, and takes a handful of corn;
15380 ਛੂਟਨ ਕੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਪਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਨਾਚਿਓ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Shhoottan Ko Sehasaa Pariaa Man Bouraa Rae Naachiou Ghar Ghar Baar ||2||
छूटन को सहसा परिआ मन बउरा रे नाचिओ घर घर बारि ॥२॥
ਬਾਂਦਰ ਡਰ ਕੇ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕਿਆ। ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੁਣ ਹਰੇਕ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਬਾਂਦਰ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ||2||
Now unable to escape, O crazy mind, it is made to dance door to door. ||2||

जिउ नलनी सूअटा गहिओ मन बउरा रे माया इहु बिउहारु ॥
ਤੋਤਾ ਫਸਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਜੰਤਰ-ਜਾਲ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ, ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੋਤਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥
Like the parrot caught in the trap, O crazy mind, you trapped by the affairs of Maya.
15382 ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕਾ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਤਿਉ ਪਸਰਿਓ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥੩॥

जैसा रंगु कसु्मभ का मन बउरा रे तिउ पसरिओ पासारु ॥३॥
ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ||3||
Like the weak dye of the safflower, O crazy mind, so is the expanse of this world of form and substance. ||3||
15383 ਨਾਵਨ ਕਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਘਨੇ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਪੂਜਨ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਵ ॥
Naavan Ko Theerathh Ghanae Man Bouraa Rae Poojan Ko Bahu Dhaev ||
नावन कउ तीरथ घने मन बउरा रे पूजन कउ बहु देव ॥
। ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪੂਜਣ ਲਈ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕ ਕਈ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
There are so many holy shrines in which to bathe, O crazy mind, and so many gods to worship.

ਭਗਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ||4||1||6||57||

Fire does not burn it, and the wind does not blow it away; thieves cannot get near it.

हमरा धनु माधउ गोबिंदु धरणीधरु इहै सार धनु कहीऐ ॥
ਸਾਡਾ ਧਨ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਧੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਵਧੀਆ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
My wealth is God, the Lord of Wealth, the Lord of the Universe, the Support of the earth: this is called the most excellent wealth.

The peace which is obtained by serving God, the Lord of the Universe - that peace cannot be found in kingdoms or power. ||1||Pause||
15390 ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਵ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥

इसु धन कारणि सिव सनकादिक खोजत भए उदासी ॥
ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਸਨਕ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਗਏ ॥

15391 ਮਨਿ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੨॥

मनि मुकंदु जिहबा नाराइनु परै न जम की फासी ॥२॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ||2||
One whose mind is filled with the Lord of liberation, and whose tongue chants the Name of the Lord, shall not be caught by the noose of Death. ||2||

निज धनु गिआनु भगति गुरि दीनी तासु सुमति मनु लागा ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਧਨ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਮਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

जलत अ्मभ थ्मभि मनु धावत भरम बंधन भउ भागा ॥३॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ। ਭਟਕਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
It is like water for the burning soul, like an anchoring support for the wandering mind; the bondage of doubt and fear is dispelled. ||3||

जो जो करम कीए लालच सिउ ते फिरि गरहि परिओ ॥१॥
ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ, ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||1||
Just so, all the deeds committed in greed ultimately become a noose around one's neck. ||1||

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸਦਾ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, without vibrating and meditating on the Lord God, one does not abide in Truth. ||1||Pause||

जिउ उदिआन कुसम परफुलित किनहि न घ्राउ लइओ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਫੁੱਲ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
Like the flower which blossoms in the wilderness with no one to enjoy its fragrance,
15402 ਤੈਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕਾਲ ਹਇਓ ॥੨॥

तैसे भ्रमत अनेक जोनि महि फिरि फिरि काल हइओ ॥२॥
ਉਵੇਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕਾਲ-ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ||2||
So do people wander in reincarnation; over and over again, they are destroyed by Death. ||2||
15403 ਇਆ ਧਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਜੁ ਦਇਓ ॥

इआ धन जोबन अरु सुत दारा पेखन कउ जु दइओ ॥
ਧਨ, ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥
This wealth, youth, children and spouse which the Lord has given you - this is all just a passing show.
15404 ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਟਕਿ ਜੋ ਉਰਝੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਲਇਓ ॥੩॥

तिन ही माहि अटकि जो उरझे इंद्री प्रेरि लइओ ॥३॥
ਬੰਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੁਕ ਕੇ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਇੰਦਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਚ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||3||
Those who are caught and entangled in these are carried away by sensual desire. ||3||

अउध अनल तनु तिन को मंदरु चहु दिस ठाटु ठइओ ॥
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਕੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਠਾ ਹੈ, ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਕੋਠੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਇਹੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥
Age is the fire, and the body is the house of straw; on all four sides, this play is being played out.

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਕ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਨ ਲਈ ਕਲਬੂਤ ਦੀ ਹਥਣੀ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ[ ਹਥਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ, ਕਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਾਥੀ ਫੜਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੁੱਝੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ।

ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੰਕਸ-ਲੋਹੇ ਦੀ ਸੀਖ ਜੋ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਰਨ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਧੌਣ ਉਤੇ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਮਲਾ ਮਨ ਕਾਂਮ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ||1||

निरभै होइ न हरि भजे मन बउरा रे गहिओ न राम जहाजु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

ਬਾਂਦਰ ਦੇ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਖਿਲਾਰ ਕੇ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਭਰ ਲਈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਮ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ। ਮਦਾਰੀ ਨੇ ਧੋਖੇ ਨਾਲ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ ॥
The monkey stretches out its hand, O crazy mind, and takes a handful of corn;
15380 ਛੂਟਨ ਕੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਪਰਿਆ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਨਾਚਿਓ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
Shhoottan Ko Sehasaa Pariaa Man Bouraa Rae Naachiou Ghar Ghar Baar ||2||
छूटन को सहसा परिआ मन बउरा रे नाचिओ घर घर बारि ॥२॥
ਬਾਂਦਰ ਡਰ ਕੇ ਮਦਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਪਕੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕਿਆ। ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਦਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਠ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੁਣ ਹਰੇਕ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਤੇ ਬਾਂਦਰ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ ||2||
Now unable to escape, O crazy mind, it is made to dance door to door. ||2||

जिउ नलनी सूअटा गहिओ मन बउरा रे माया इहु बिउहारु ॥
ਤੋਤਾ ਫਸਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਜੰਤਰ-ਜਾਲ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ, ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤੋਤਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰੀ ਫੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਹੈ ॥
Like the parrot caught in the trap, O crazy mind, you trapped by the affairs of Maya.
15382 ਜੈਸਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਕਾ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਤਿਉ ਪਸਰਿਓ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
Jaisaa Rang Kasunbh Kaa Man Bouraa Rae Thio Pasariou Paasaar ||3||
जैसा रंगु कसु्मभ का मन बउरा रे तिउ पसरिओ पासारु ॥३॥
ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਥੋੜੇ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਖਿਲਾਰਾ ਖਿਲਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ||3||
Like the weak dye of the safflower, O crazy mind, so is the expanse of this world of form and substance. ||3||
15383 ਨਾਵਨ ਕਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਘਨੇ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ ਪੂਜਨ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਵ ॥
Naavan Ko Theerathh Ghanae Man Bouraa Rae Poojan Ko Bahu Dhaev ||
नावन कउ तीरथ घने मन बउरा रे पूजन कउ बहु देव ॥
। ਝੱਲੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪੂਜਣ ਲਈ ਬਥੇਰੇ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਹਨ। ਲੋਕ ਕਈ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥
There are so many holy shrines in which to bathe, O crazy mind, and so many gods to worship.

ਭਗਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਸਹਿਮ ਤੋਂ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੱਕਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ||4||1||6||57||

ਇਸ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਹ ਅੱਗ ਸਾੜ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰ, ਨਾਹ ਹਵਾ ਉਡਾ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ,॥
Fire does not burn it, and the wind does not blow it away; thieves cannot get near it.

हमरा धनु माधउ गोबिंदु धरणीधरु इहै सार धनु कहीऐ ॥
ਸਾਡਾ ਧਨ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਧੋ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਧਨਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਵਧੀਆ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
My wealth is God, the Lord of Wealth, the Lord of the Universe, the Support of the earth: this is called the most excellent wealth.

ਜੋ ਸੁਖ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅੰਨਦ ਰਾਜ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
The peace which is obtained by serving God, the Lord of the Universe - that peace cannot be found in kingdoms or power. ||1||Pause||
15390 ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਿਵ ਸਨਕਾਦਿਕ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥

इसु धन कारणि सिव सनकादिक खोजत भए उदासी ॥
ਇਸ ਧਨ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਤੇ ਸਨਕ, ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਗਏ ॥
Shiva and Sanak, in their search for this wealth, became Udaasees, and renounced the world.
15391 ਮਨਿ ਮੁਕੰਦੁ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਨਾਰਾਇਨੁ ਪਰੈ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੨॥

मनि मुकंदु जिहबा नाराइनु परै न जम की फासी ॥२॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਫਾਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ ||2||
One whose mind is filled with the Lord of liberation, and whose tongue chants the Name of the Lord, shall not be caught by the noose of Death. ||2||
15392 ਨਿਜ ਧਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਤਾਸੁ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

निज धनु गिआनु भगति गुरि दीनी तासु सुमति मनु लागा ॥
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਧਨ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਚੱਜੀ ਮਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ॥

जलत अ्मभ थ्मभि मनु धावत भरम बंधन भउ भागा ॥३॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਈ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ। ਭਟਕਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
It is like water for the burning soul, like an anchoring support for the wandering mind; the bondage of doubt and fear is dispelled. ||3||

ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਬਣ ਕੇ, ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||1||
Just so, all the deeds committed in greed ultimately become a noose around one's neck. ||1||

जिउ उदिआन कुसम परफुलित किनहि न घ्राउ लइओ ॥
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਫੁੱਲ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਨਾਹ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥

तैसे भ्रमत अनेक जोनि महि फिरि फिरि काल हइओ ॥२॥
ਉਵੇਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕਾਲ-ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ||2||
So do people wander in reincarnation; over and over again, they are destroyed by Death. ||2||
15403 ਇਆ ਧਨ ਜੋਬਨ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਪੇਖਨ ਕਉ ਜੁ ਦਇਓ ॥

इआ धन जोबन अरु सुत दारा पेखन कउ जु दइओ ॥
ਧਨ, ਜੁਆਨੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ॥
This wealth, youth, children and spouse which the Lord has given you - this is all just a passing show.
15404 ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਟਕਿ ਜੋ ਉਰਝੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿ ਲਇਓ ॥੩॥

तिन ही माहि अटकि जो उरझे इंद्री प्रेरि लइओ ॥३॥
ਬੰਦੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰੁਕ ਕੇ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਇੰਦਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਚ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ||3||
Those who are caught and entangled in these are carried away by sensual desire. ||3||

अउध अनल तनु तिन को मंदरु चहु दिस ठाटु ठइओ ॥
ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਕੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਠਾ ਹੈ, ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਮੁੱਕਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਕੋਠੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਇਹੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ॥
Age is the fire, and the body is the house of straw; on all four sides, this play is being played out.
