ਮੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। ਪੇਪਰ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ, ਵਾਰ-ਵਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਾਂ।

O Nanak, if I had hundreds of thousands of stacks of paper, and if I were to read and recite and embrace love for the Lord,

ਮੈ ਉਤਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਸਕਦਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਵੇਂ ਦੱਸਾ? ||4||2||

ਮੁਤਾਬਰ ਹੀ ਬੋਲ-ਬਰਾਲਾ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨਾਂ ਹੈ। ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਖਾਂਣਾ ਖਾਂਣਾਂ ਹੈ।
As it is pre-ordained, people speak their words. As it is pre-ordained, they consume their food.

ਕਰਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੇ ਥੋੜੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਮੁਸਾਫ਼ਰ ਆਏਂ ਹਾਂ। ਸੁਨਣ ਦੇਖਣ ਆਏ ਹਾਂ।
As it is pre-ordained, they walk along the way. As it is pre-ordained, they see and hear.

ਕਰਮਾ

ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹੇ ਸਾਹ ਆਉਣੇ ਹਨ। ਵਿਦਿਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਲਵੋ। ||1||

As it is pre-ordained, they draw their breath. Why should I go and ask the scholars about this? ||1||

मरणा जाइ कै एथै खाजै कालि ॥

ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਪਿਛੋ

ਮੋਤ ਹੈ। ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਹੈ। ਜੀਵ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੱਕ ਵਸਤੂਆ ਹੀ ਇੱਕਠੀਆਂ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
Life and death come to all who are born. Everything here gets devoured by Death.

बहि समझाईऐ तिथै कोइ न चलिओ नालि ॥

ਵਾਰ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਧਰਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਬੱਸ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ। ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਣਾਂ ਪੈਣਾਂ ਹੈ। ਉਥੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀ ਤੁਰਨਾ।

He sits and examines the accounts, there where no one goes along with anyone.

ਹੀ ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋ ਰੋਦੇ ਨੇ, ਉਹੀ ਬਾਲਣ ਇੱਕਠਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ||2||

Those who weep and wail might just as well all tie bundles of straw. ||2||

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਨ ਆਖੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

सभु

को आखै बहुतु बहुतु घटि न आखै कोइ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹੈ। ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੰਸਾਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੋਈ ਥੋੜਾ ਨਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ।

Everyone says that God is the Greatest of the Great. No one calls Him any less.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ਕਹਣਿ ਨ ਵਡਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

कीमति

किनै न पाईआ कहणि न वडा होइ ॥

ਤੇਰੀ

ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ। ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ। ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਧਣ ਨਹੀ ਲੱਗਾ। ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ।
No one can estimate His Worth. By speaking of Him, His Greatness is not increased.

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਬੁ ਏਕੁ ਤੂ ਹੋਰਿ ਜੀਆ ਕੇਤੇ ਲੋਅ ॥੩॥

साचा

साहबु एकु तू होरि जीआ केते लोअ ॥३॥

ਸੱਚਾ

ਮਾਲਕ ਇੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਅਮਰ ਹੈ। ਬਾਕੀ ਜਿੰਨੇ ਵੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਨਾਸ਼ਵਾਨ ਹਨ।
You are the One True Lord and Master of all the other beings, of so many worlds. ||3||

ਨੀਚਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਨੀਚੀ ਹੂ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਚੁ ॥

अंदरि नीच जाति नीची हू अति नीचु ॥

ਮੈ

ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟੀ ਜਾਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਜਾਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹੋਵਾ। ਮੈਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਹਾਂ।
Nanak seeks the company of the lowest of the low class, the very lowest of the low.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਥਿ ਵਡਿਆ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਰੀਸ ॥

तिन कै संगि साथि वडिआ सिउ किआ रीस ॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਯਾਰ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਚਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਚਹਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ। ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ।

Why should he try to compete with the great?

ਜਿਥੈ ਨੀਚ ਸਮਾਲੀਅਨਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥੪॥੩॥

जिथै

नीच समालीअनि तिथै नदरि तेरी बखसीस ॥४॥३॥

ਜਿਸ

ਥਾਂ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਛੋਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ||4||3||

In that place where the lowly are cared for-there, the Blessings of Your Glance of Grace rain down. ||4||3||

कुता कूड़ु चूहड़ा ठगि खाधा मुरदारु ॥

ਲੋਬ

ਲਾਲਚ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿੰਦਾ। ਕੁੱਤੇ ਝਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਜਾਦੀ ਹੈ। ਝੂਠ ਗੰਧ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਠੱਗ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰ ਸੱਮਝਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਰਾ ਦੇ ਕੂੜਾ, ਅੋਗੁਣ ਇੱਕਠੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Greed is a dog; falsehood is a filthy street-sweeper. Cheating is eating a rotting carcass.

ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਪਰ ਮਲੁ ਮੁਖ ਸੁਧੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਚੰਡਾਲੁ ॥

पर

निंदा पर मलु मुख सुधी अगनि क्रोधु चंडालु ॥

ਕਿਸੇ

ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੁਰਾ ਚਿਤਮਣਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗੰਦ ਮਾੜੇ ਕਰਮ ਖਾਣਾਂ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਕੱਟੇ ਜਾਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁੱਸੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੱਲ ਜਾਦਾ ਹੈ। ਚੜੇਲ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ।
Slandering others is putting the filth of others into your own mouth. The fire of anger is the outcaste who burns dead bodies at the crematorium.

कस आपु सलाहणा ए करम मेरे करतार ॥१॥

ਮੈਂ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਵੱਡਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਆਦ ਪੈ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਮੇਰੇ

ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। ||1||

I am caught in these tastes and flavors, and in self-conceited praise. These are my actions, O my Creator! ||1||

ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ

, ਚੰਗ੍ਹੇ ਕਰਮਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਸ ਵੱਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਵੱਡੇ ਕਹਾਉਦੇ ਨੇ। ਮਾੜੇ ਲੇਖ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਛਤਾਉਦੇ ਨੇ। ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

They alone are good, who are judged good at the Lord's Door. Those with bad karma can only sit and weep. ||1||Pause||

ਲਈ ਸੋਨਾ, ਚਾਂਦੀ, ਸੂਰਤਾ, ਸ਼ਕਲਾਂ, ਕਾਂਮ ਸੁਗੰਧੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
The pleasures of gold and silver, the pleasures of women, the pleasure of the fragrance of sandalwood,

ਰਸੁ ਘੋੜੇ ਰਸੁ ਸੇਜਾ ਮੰਦਰ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਰਸੁ ਮਾਸੁ ॥

घोड़े रसु सेजा मंदर रसु मीठा रसु मासु ॥

ਅੰਨਦ

ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਘੋੜੇ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਨਣ ਅਰਾਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਘਰ ਵਧੀਆ ਲਾਲਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The pleasure of horses, the pleasure of a soft bed in a palace, the pleasure of sweet treats and the pleasure of hearty meals

ਏਤੇ ਰਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਕੇ ਕੈ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੨॥

रस सरीर के कै घटि नाम निवासु ॥२॥

ਸਾਰੇ

ਅੰਨਦ ਦੇਹ ਲਈ ਨੇ। ਰੱਬ ਕਿਤੇ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ। ||2||
-these pleasures of the human body are so numerous; how can the Naam, the Name of the Lord, find its dwelling in the heart? ||2||

ਜਿਤੁ ਬੋਲਿਐ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੋ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥

बोलिऐ पति पाईऐ सो बोलिआ परवाणु ॥

ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਬੋਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਣ ਵਧੇ। ਉਹੀ ਬੋਲ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
Those words are acceptable, which, when spoken, bring honor.

ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਿ ਵਿਗੁਚਣਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਅਜਾਣ ॥

Fikaa Bol Viguchanaa Sun Moorakh Man Ajaan ||

फिका

बोलि विगुचणा सुणि मूरख मन अजाण ॥

ਮਾੜਾ

ਕੌੜਾ ਬੋਲ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਠੀਕ ਨਹੀ। ਬੇਸੱਮਝ ਮਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸੱਮਝ ਨਹੀ।

Harsh words bring only grief. Listen, O foolish and ignorant mind!

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਚੰਗ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਕੀ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਾ? ||3||
Those who are pleasing to Him are good. What else is there to be said? ||3||

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਦੀ ਝੋਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਕਲ ਲਾਜ ਦੋਲਤ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

Wisdom, honor and wealth are in the laps of those whose hearts remain permeated with the Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਅਵਰ ਸੁਆਲਿਉ ਕਾਇ ॥

का किआ सालाहणा अवर सुआलिउ काइ ॥

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ

ਬਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਦੱਸਾ। ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਹਨ। ਹੋਰ ਉਨਾਂ ਸਿਫਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਬਲ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ।
What praise can be offered to them? What other adornments can be bestowed upon them?

ਜੋ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਥੱਲੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। ਉਹ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ, ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ। ॥4॥4॥
O Nanak, those who lack the Lord's Glance of Grace cherish neither charity nor the Lord's Name. ||4||4||

ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਸ਼ਾ ਆਪ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਬੇਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਨਹੀ।
The Great Giver has given the intoxicating drug of falsehood.

मरणु विसारिआ खुसी कीती दिन चारि ॥

ਮਨ

ਨੇ ਮਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਨਹੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਜਿਉ ਕੇ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਨਦ ਲੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
The people are intoxicated; they have forgotten death, and they have fun for a few days.

ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸੋਫੀਆ ਰਾਖਣ ਕਉ ਦਰਵਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

सचु

मिलिआ तिन सोफीआ राखण कउ दरवारु ॥१॥

ਜੋ

ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋ ਬਚੇ ਨੇ। ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। ||1||

Those who do not use intoxicants are true; they dwell in the Court of the Lord. ||1||

ਦੇ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਅੰਨਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਲਾਜ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Serving Him, peace is obtained; you shall go to His Court with honor. ||1||Pause||

सरा गुड़ बाहरा जिसु विचि सचा नाउ

ਰੱਬ

ਦੀ ਖੁਮਾਰੀ ਗੁੜ ਤੋ ਵੀ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਬੱਰਕਤ ਹੈ।

The Wine of Truth is not fermented from molasses. The True Name is contained within it.
