ऊचा ऊचो होई ॥

ਰੱਬ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਚਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ। ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਪਰੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਉਚਾ ਉਠਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥

आपि विखाले सु वेखै कोई ॥

ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਦਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹੀ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

How rare are those who behold Him. He causes Himself to be seen.

ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਰੱਬ ਕੌਤਕ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਹਮਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਦਿਖਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

By Guru's Grace, I have found Him within the home of my own heart.

सरेवी इक मनि धिआई गुरमुखि सचि समावणिआ ॥१॥

ਸਮੇਂ ਇੱਕ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰ ਜੱਪਣ, ਬੋਲਣ, ਗਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੱਚੇ ਰੱਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ, ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।||1||

Sadhaa Saraevee Eik Man I serve Him constantly, and I meditate on Him single-mindedly. As Gurmukh, I am absorbed in the True One. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

वारी जीउ वारी जगजीवनु मंनि वसावणिआ ॥

ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਣ-ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੱਬ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Lord, the Life of the World, within their minds.

घर

महि धरती धउलु पाताला ॥

ਜੋ ਰੱਬ ਧਰਤੀ ਪਤਾਲ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

Within the home of the self is the earth, its support and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਾਲਾ ॥

घर

ही महि प्रीतमु सदा है बाला ॥

ਸਰੀਰ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ ਸਦਾ ਜਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੱਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

Within the home of the self is the Eternally Young Beloved.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

अनंदि रहै सुखदाता गुरमति सहजि समावणिआ ॥२॥

ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੱਤ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਮਾਰ ਸੱਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣਾਂ ਸੁਣਨਾਂ ਹੈ

One who becomes Gurmukh subdues egotism, and meditates on the Truest of the True. ||3||

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥

अंदरि पापु पुंनु दुइ भाई ॥

ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾੜੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੋਨੇ ਭਰਾ ਵਸਦੇ ਹਨ।

Within this body are the two brothers, sin and virtue.

ਦੁਹੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥

दुही

मिलि कै स्रिसटि उपाई ॥

ਦੋਂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

When the two joined together, the Universe was produced.

ਦੋਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

दोवै

मारि जाइ इकतु घरि आवै गुरमति सहजि समावणिआ ॥४॥

ਦੋਨੇਂ

ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਮਾਰ ਦੇਣ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇੱਕ ਰੱਬ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਠਰਮੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ||4||

Subduing both, and entering into the Home of the One, through the Guru's Teachings, we are absorbed in intuitive peace. ||4||

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਨੇਰਾ ॥

Ghar Hee Maahi Dhoojai Bhaae Anaeraa ||

घर

ही माहि दूजै भाइ अनेरा ॥

ਰੱਬ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਲਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Within the home of the self is the darkness of the love of duality.

ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

Chaanan Hovai Shhoddai Houmai Maeraa ||

चानणु

होवै छोडै हउमै मेरा ॥

ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਰੱਬੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

When the Divine Light dawns, ego and selfishness are dispelled.

ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

परगटु

सबदु है सुखदाता अनदिनु नामु धिआवणिआ ॥५॥

ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਦ-ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਗਾਉਣ, ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ

ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਜੱਪਦਾ ਹੈ। ||5||

The Giver of peace is revealed through the Shabad, meditating upon the Naam, night and day. ||5||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

जोति परगटु पासारा ॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੀਵ ਦਰਖ਼ਤ, ਸਮੁੰਦਰ, ਧਰਤੀ ਪਹਾੜ ਸਭ ਬੱਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।

Deep within the self is the Light of God; It radiates throughout the expanse of His creation.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥

Gur Saakhee Mittiaa Andhhiaaraa ||

गुर

साखी मिटिआ अंधिआरा ॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ੱਕ, ਹਨੇਰੇ ਮੁਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Through the Guru's Teachings, the darkness of spiritual ignorance is dispelled.

ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

Kamal Bigaas Sadhaa Sukh Paaeiaa Jothee Joth Milaavaniaa ||6||

कमलु

बिगासि सदा सुखु पाइआ जोती जोति मिलावणिआ ॥६॥

ਮਨ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੰਨਦ-ਸੁਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੜ ਕੇ,

ਹਿਰਦਾ, ਕਮਲ ਫੁੱਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਲਝ ਬੱਚ ਕੇ, ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ||6||

The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and eternal peace is obtained, as one's light merges into the Light. ||6||

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

महल रतनी भरे भंडारा ॥

ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ, ਰਤਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।

Within the mansion is the treasure house, overflowing with jewels.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

Guramukh Paaeae Naam Apaaraa ||

गुरमुखि

पाए नामु अपारा ॥

ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਨਾਂਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Gurmukh obtains the Infinite Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

Guramukh Vanajae Sadhaa Vaapaaree Laahaa Naam Sadh Paavaniaa ||7||

गुरमुखि

वणजे सदा वापारी लाहा नामु सद पावणिआ ॥७॥

ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ, ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾਂ ਖੱਟ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Gurmukh, the trader, always purchases the merchandise of the Naam, and always reaps profits. ||7||

ਆਪੇ ਵਥੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥

Aapae Vathh Raakhai Aapae Dhaee ||

आपे

वथु राखै आपे देइ ॥

ਆਪ ਹੀ ਨਾਂਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਅੰਨਦ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The Lord Himself keeps this merchandise in stock, and He Himself distributes it.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥

Guramukh Vanajehi Kaeee Kaee ||

गुरमुखि वणजहि केई केइ ॥

ਐਸੇ ਭਾਗਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾਗਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Rare is that Gurmukh who trades in this.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੭॥੨੮॥

जिसु नदरि करे सो पाए करि किरपा मंनि वसावणिआ ॥८॥२७॥२८॥

The Lord Himself leads us to merge with Him and serve Him.

ਦੇ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਣ ਸੁਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੇ।

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the love of duality is eradicated.

ਨਾਂਮ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪ ਰੱਚਿਆ ਹੈ।

The Immaculate Lord is the Bestower of eternal virtue. The Lord Himself leads us to merge in His Virtuous Goodness. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

वारी जीउ वारी सचु सचा हिरदै वसावणिआ ॥

ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਊਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਅੰਨਦ ਦੇ ਦਾਤੇ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who enshrine the Truest of the True within their hearts.

ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਹੈ। ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਂਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।

आपे

गुरु दाता करमि बिधाता ॥

ਭਗਵਾਨ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਤਾਰ ਹੈ।

The Guru Himself is the Giver, the Architect of Destiny.

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥

Saevak Saevehi Guramukh Har Jaathaa ||

सेवक

सेवहि गुरमुखि हरि जाता ॥

ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਾਂਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

The Gurmukh, the humble servant who serves the Lord, comes to know Him.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

Anmrith Naam Sadhaa Jan Sohehi Guramath Har Ras Paavaniaa ||2||

नामि सदा जन सोहहि गुरमति हरि रसु पावणिआ ॥२॥

ਮਿੱਠਾ

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਂਮ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਂਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ||2||

Those humble beings look beautiful forever in the Ambrosial Naam. Through the Guru's Teachings, they receive the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||

ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥

Eis Gufaa Mehi Eik Thhaan Suhaaeiaa ||

ਸਰੀਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ ਲੱਭ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

गुफा महि इकु थानु सुहाइआ ॥

Within the cave of this body, there is one beautiful place.

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥

Poorai Gur Houmai Bharam Chukaaeiaa ||

पूरै

गुरि हउमै भरमु चुकाइआ ॥

ਪੂਰੈ

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੰਕਾਂਰ ਦਾ ਭਲੇਖਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Through the Perfect Guru, ego and doubt are dispelled.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

Anadhin Naam Salaahan Rang Raathae Gur Kirapaa Thae Paavaniaa ||3||

अनदिनु

नामु सलाहनि रंगि राते गुर किरपा ते पावणिआ ॥३॥

ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਮ ਜੱਪਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Night and day, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; imbued with the Lord's Love, by Guru's Grace, you shall find Him. ||3||
